Dear Friends, Neighbors, Pizza Fans, and Fellow Soccer Loversโ
People often ask us what it's been like to open a restaurant.
Usually they're asking about recipes, permits, construction delays, equipment, or whether we've managed to get enough sleep. Those are all fair questions, but they're not really the interesting ones.
The truth is that opening a restaurant doesn't end when you unlock the doors for the first time. That's just the day people begin deciding what your place is going to mean to them.
For some people, Pizza Maya has already become their Friday night dinner spot. For others, it's somewhere to stop after work for Happy Hour. We've watched families celebrate birthdays here, couples wander in after walks along West 7th, and neighbors introduce themselves to one another over slices they almost certainly intended to share.
None of that can be designed. It has to happen on its own.
The World Cup has accelerated all of it.
Over the past month we've seen conversations start between people who otherwise never would have met. Jerseys from half a dozen countries have ended up around the same table. Matches have finished, but people have stayed because another conversation had just begun.
If we're honest, that's the restaurant we hoped to build.
This week, the World Cup reaches the semifinals, and we'll be showing both matches at Pizza Maya.

Weekday Happy Hour runs from 2โ5 PM, making the semifinal matches the perfect excuse to sneak out a little early, settle in with a drink, grab some pizza or momos, and spend the afternoon with fellow supporters.
If you're looking for somewhere to experience these matches with people who love the game as much as you do, we'd be honored to have you spend them with us.
And if soccer isn't the only reason you come, that's even better.
After all, it never really was about soccer.
See you soon!
Yours in soccer, momos, pizza, and community,
Pizza Maya
