Father’s Day. ♥️

Today was a beautiful day. A busy day. A hard day. A meaningful day.

Holiday brunches are some of the toughest days in the restaurant world. New menus. Early mornings. Hundreds of eggs. Endless coffee. Everyone likes breakfast their own way. The pressure is real, the pace is relentless, and by the end of the day your feet ache, your back hurts, and sitting down feels like a luxury.

But today wasn’t just about food.

Today was about the people standing beside me.

These men spent Father’s Day in a hot kitchen and behind the scenes helping create memories for other families instead of being home with their own. They cooked, cleaned, prepped, plated, laughed, pushed through exhaustion, and gave everything they had because that’s what they do every single day.

Most of their families are hundreds, even thousands, of miles away. Over the years, we’ve become something more than coworkers. We have become a family.

Today I thought about the fathers who are here. The fathers who are far away. The fathers who are no longer with us. I thought about my own dad, Gary, and how much I wish I could hug him one more time and tell him everything we’ve built here.

Restaurants are funny that way. While everyone else is gathering around the table, we’re the ones making sure the table is ready. We sacrifice holidays, weekends, birthdays, anniversaries, and time with the people we love so others can celebrate theirs.

And somehow, that’s still a privilege.

I’m incredibly proud of this team. Proud of the food we create from our hearts. Proud of the care we put into every plate. Proud of the grit, determination, and work ethic that lives inside these walls.

A huge cheers to these dads and all the fathers in our lives. Thank you for showing up. Thank you for believing in what we’re building. Thank you for carrying this place with me every single day.

Molly’s is more than a restaurant.

It’s family.

Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing dads out there—those beside us, those far away, and those watching over us.

❤️

The Colors of the Season.

This box tells a story.

Not of food, but of people.

Of farmers who rise before the sun. Of dirt beneath fingernails. Of unpredictable weather, long days, and a commitment to growing something beautiful. Of local families who continue to feed local families.

Today, Sue at Untiedt’s Farm delivered another reminder of why supporting local matters.

Vibrant tomatoes bursting with sweetness. Summer squash glowing like sunshine. Tender asparagus picked at its peak. Every color, every flavor, every ingredient carrying the fingerprints of our Minnesota growing season.

At Molly’s, this is where great food begins.

Not from a truck crossing the country. Not from a warehouse. But from relationships. From trust. From our community.

As chefs, we have a responsibility to honor these ingredients, these farmers, and the land that produces them. Sustainability isn’t a trend. It’s a promise. A commitment to preserving what feeds us, supports us, and connects us.

The kitchen is buzzing today, creating chef specials inspired by this beautiful harvest. On a cloudy, rainy Minnesota day, there may be no better place to be than gathered around a table, sharing food made with intention.

Because food tastes different when you know where it came from.

Thank you, Sue. Thank you to all of our local farmers.

The colors of summer have arrived at Molly’s, and they’re absolutely stunning.

🌱 Eat better. Drink better. Be better.

Sometimes life has a funny way of saying hello.

Today, I spent part of my day writing about my dad, Gary, for an upcoming journal post. Remembering him. Missing him. Smiling at the memories. Thinking about the kind of father he was.

Then tonight, this little guy showed up on our front patio.

His name?

Gary.

Twelve weeks old, impossibly adorable, and looking at me like he had something important to say.

Now, am I saying my dad came back as a puppy? No.

Am I saying the universe has a sense of humor? Absolutely.

At Molly’s, we love dogs. We love dads. And every once in a while, we love those little moments that remind us the people we miss aren’t always as far away as we think.

Thanks for stopping by, Gary. You made a lot of people smile tonight.

❤️🐾

Sometimes the signs we need don’t arrive in grand ways. Sometimes they show up on the patio with floppy ears, big eyes, and a wagging tail.

☀️ A Toast to Summer at Molly’s ☀️

This is the season that inspires me most.

The colors are brighter. The ingredients are fresher. The days are longer. And every plate feels like a celebration of everything Minnesota and our incredible farmers, fishermen, ranchers, and producers work so hard to bring to our tables.

This week we’re welcoming summer with some of my favorite new creations:

🐟 Alaskan Sockeye Salmon with local asparagus, snap peas, and a bright spring vegetable salad

🌿 Alaskan Halibut with sweet pea velouté, asparagus, and sweet corn beurre blanc

🦀 Lump Crab & Sweet Corn Cakes with lemon herb aioli and shaved watermelon radish

🍋 Salmon Lox Tartine with whipped lemon ricotta, crushed peas, pistachio crumble, fresh greens, and lemon

Every dish begins with an ingredient I love and ends with a story I hope you’ll remember.

At Molly’s, we believe summer should taste like sunshine, gardens, lakes, farmers markets, fresh herbs, and meals shared with people you love.

Thank you for allowing me to create, dream, and cook for this community every day. It never gets old.

Here’s to patio evenings, local vegetables, beautiful wines, and a season full of unforgettable meals.

🥂 Welcome to Summer at Molly’s.

Eat better. Drink better. Be better. 🌱

A Note From Me About Father’s Day

This morning I wrote about my dad in my journal.

About the smell of ci******es on his clothes, the change rattling in his jean pockets, the sports conversations that never seemed to end, and the quiet way he showed love. Like so many of us, I lost my dad before I was ready. Father’s Day has looked a little different ever since.

The truth is, fathers come in all kinds of packages.

Some are biological fathers. Some are stepfathers. Some are grandfathers who stepped in when they didn’t have to. Some are coaches, mentors, uncles, brothers, neighbors, and friends who taught us how to work hard, laugh harder, and keep going when life got tough.

This Sunday, we’re celebrating all of them.

The dads who taught us how to throw a ball.
The dads who fixed everything with duct tape.
The dads who embarrassed us on purpose.
The dads who showed up every time.
And the dads we carry with us now only in memory.

Join us for a special Father’s Day Brunch at Molly’s.

We’ve built a menu full of the kind of food dads tend to love—steakhouse hash, maple bourbon French toast, smoked salmon omelets, breakfast burgers, short rib toast, biscuits & gravy, breakfast carbonara, and spring vegetable Benedicts.

Bring Dad. Bring Grandpa. Bring the person who has been a father figure in your life. Or simply gather around a table and raise a glass to someone you’re missing.

Because food has always been about more than eating.
It’s about remembering.

Molly’s Journal Entry #6
Food for Thought. Wine for Wonder.

On Fathers.

Father’s Day is coming up, and I’ve been thinking a lot about fathers.
Fathers come in many packages.
My dad, Gary, was my coach more than anything growing up. He had two girls, and I think he loved that we both played sports because coaching was everything to him back then. Conversations with Dad were usually consumed by sports recaps, statistics, scores, highlights, and whatever game had just been played. It was his language.
He had a soft, quiet way of showing love.
He made people laugh. His jean pockets were worn thin from years of carrying loose change. He always smelled like ci******es. His hands were dry and cracked from working on a paper press. He loved snacks—kind of like me. We were both grazers. He sang loudly and completely off-key in church just to make my sister and me laugh.
He was simple.
He didn’t need much, though I think there was a part of him that always wished he had more, like some of his siblings did. Not because he was greedy, but because he wanted to provide.
He passed away during COVID, and that made an already difficult time even harder.
His health had been declining for years. My mom took care of him with a level of devotion that still amazes me. Watching him lose his mobility, watching his body fail him while his mind remained sharp as a whip, broke something inside me. I think that’s one of the cruelest things life can do to a person. To know exactly who you are, what you want to do, where you want to go—and no longer have a body that will let you.
I know he was embarrassed.
I know he was frustrated.
I know he was angry.
And I don’t blame him.
I remember my early days as a chef. He loved when I came over and cooked for him. Every meal started the same way.
“Dad, taste it before you add more salt and pepper.”
His taste buds had been sacrificed to decades of smoking, and he never listened anyway.
One of the greatest gifts I’ve ever received was getting to feed him his last meal in the hospital before he could no longer eat.
As a chef, that moment means something profound to me.
I remember asking him, “Did it taste good?”
He smiled.
Then shook his head no.
I laughed.
That was Dad.
I know he’d be proud of me now.
I also know he’d be worried sick about how much stress I put on myself every day.
His favorite dish at Molly’s would probably be the walleye or the short ribs. He’d sit quietly, eat every bite, ask for more pepper, and tell me I worked too hard.
I miss him every day.
But I still feel him.
In the way I push myself.
In the way I care for people through food.
In the way I try to make others feel seen.
The older I get, the more I realize fathers aren’t always the men who share our last name.
They come in many forms throughout our lives.
Father-in-laws.
Stepfathers.
Grandfathers.
Great-grandfathers.
Coaches.
Teachers.
Mentors.
The dad of a friend who treated you like one of their own.
Even customers who care enough to check in and ask how you’re really doing.
Father figures are the people who look over you, support you, comfort you, protect you, and quietly help carry your burdens.
Early in Brad and my relationship, he took me on a Harley ride to visit his family several hours away. Along the way, he surprised me with a stop at a cemetery.
He wanted to introduce me to his dad.
His father passed away when Brad was just a baby.
It was one of the sweetest things anyone has ever done for me.
It showed me a side of Brad I hadn’t seen before—a tenderness beneath all the strength.
I think Brad would have loved being a dad.
And sometimes I think if we’d met earlier in life, maybe we would have figured out a way to raise a child together.
But life unfolds the way it’s meant to.
Instead, we got Horse.
The giant rescue pit bull neither of us knew we needed.
Brad was against getting a dog at first.
Now they’re inseparable.
Dog dad for life.
As Father’s Day approaches, I find myself thinking about all the men who make our lives brighter.
The men who polish your softball glove.
Who sit through dance recitals.
Who teach you how to mow the lawn.
Who take you fishing.
Who take you for boat rides.
Who answer the phone when life falls apart.
Who help you navigate restaurant problems.
Who keep old memories tucked safely in their hearts.
Who show up.
Again and again.
Sometimes quietly.
Sometimes imperfectly.
But always with love.
I see so many of those men in my past, my present, and hopefully my future.
And I am grateful for every one of them.
This Father’s Day, celebrate every father figure in your life.
The biological fathers.
The chosen fathers.
The coaches.
The mentors.
The grandfathers.
The men who helped shape you into who you are.
And if you’re spending this holiday alone, missing someone, carrying grief, or simply wishing you had one more conversation with someone who is gone, know that you’re not alone.
There will always be a seat for you at my restaurant.
A place to share a story.
A memory.
A laugh.
Or even a tear.
Because some holidays aren’t celebrations.
Sometimes they’re remembrances.
And sometimes the best thing we can do is gather together and remember the people who loved us.
To my dad, Gary—
Every day I get up and try to do a little better because of you.
I hope your baby girl is making you proud wherever you are.
And I hope you finally found a meal that doesn’t need more salt and pepper.
“The people we love never really leave us. They live on in the stories we tell, the lessons they taught, and the love we carry forward every day.”

Summer is officially arriving at Molly’s, and I couldn’t be more excited.
The colors are brighter. The flavors are bolder. The ingredients are fresher. And creatively? I feel like I’m firing on all cylinders right now.
As many of you know, changing a menu isn’t as simple as printing new paper. Every dish starts as an idea, then becomes a recipe, a tasting, a tweak, a conversation, another tweak, and eventually a plate that feels worthy of your table.
This week our new lunch menu made its debut, and I’m incredibly grateful for the support and patience you’ve shown us as we work through the process. We’ll continue running daily specials and introducing new dishes gradually so our amazing team can learn, refine, and perfect each creation the right way.
Great food takes time.
Great service takes practice.
Great restaurants are built one dish, one plate, one guest experience at a time.
Chef perfection is never instant. It’s recipes, adjustments, tasting, training, plating, vision, and a relentless pursuit of getting better every single day.
Thank you for allowing us the grace to grow, create, and evolve. I’m so proud of what’s coming out of our kitchen, and even more excited about what’s still to come.
Here are a few glimpses of what summer at Molly’s is starting to look like.
One dish. One creation. One season at a time. ☀️🖤

A quick note from Molly’s 🖤

Tonight, our dining room will be closed to the public as we host a special wine dinner with the incredible team from Bledsoe Family Winery, all the way from Walla Walla, Washington.

We’re honored to welcome their team to St. Boni for an evening of beautiful wines, thoughtfully paired courses, and great conversation around the table.

For our guests joining us tonight, we can’t wait to share this experience with you.

For everyone else, we’ll be back tomorrow with our regular service and all your Molly’s favorites waiting for you.

Thank you for supporting these special events, local hospitality, and the kind of experiences that bring people together through food, wine, and community.

See you soon.

Hi friends. 🖤

Today we launched our new lunch menu.

And if you’ve ever wondered what goes into a menu change, I can assure you it’s a little more than swapping out a few dishes and hitting print. 😅

Over the last several weeks we’ve been developing recipes, training staff, sourcing ingredients, tasting, tweaking, photographing, writing, designing, organizing, and somehow balancing that with patio projects, landscaping projects, parking lot projects, restaurant projects… and moving into a new home that, if we’re being honest, probably won’t be fully unpacked for months.

But today, we took another step forward.

Lunch is here.

Dinner will follow throughout the week as we slowly roll out new specials and take the time to teach every dish the right way in our kitchen. We don’t rush things at Molly’s. We taste, we adjust, we learn, and we make sure we’re proud of what reaches your table.

I’m feeling a little bit of everything right now.

Humbly proud.
Quietly exhausted.
Emotionally excited.

This menu reflects everything I love about summer cooking—bright flavors, beautiful ingredients, local partnerships, and food that feels alive.

Fresh peas. Asparagus. Radishes. Herbs. Sustainable seafood. Thoughtful sourcing. Scratch cooking. Dishes that celebrate the season rather than fight it.

This is what Molly’s was always meant to be.

So welcome to summer at Molly’s. ☀️

Bright. Vibrant. Seasonal.
Rooted in community.
Mindful of where our food comes from.
Crafted with intention.

I can’t wait to share it with you, one meal, one dish, and one story at a time.

See you soon.

🏈🍷 UNDER THE LIGHTS | THIS THURSDAY AT MOLLY’S 🍷🏈

What happens when football roots meet some of the most celebrated wines in Walla Walla?

You get a night like this.

This Thursday, we’re welcoming the team from Bledsoe Family Winery to Minnesota for a one-night-only wine dinner inspired by the game, the vineyards, and the stories behind both.

Think of it as game day for grown-ups.

🏈 First Quarter starts with butter-poached lobster and Elizabeth Chardonnay.

🏈 The Kickoff brings spring morels and the beautifully balanced LFG Pinot Noir.

🏈 Halftime features my Asian-spiced duck meatballs paired with Bledsoe Cabernet.

🏈 Fourth Quarter delivers grilled beef tenderloin and the legendary Doubleback Cabernet.

🏈 And because every great game deserves extra time… Overtime ends with dark chocolate pot de crème and Doubleback Merlot.

No whistles.
No referees.
No tailgating.

Just incredible wine, a chef-crafted five-course menu, and a chance to spend an evening with the people behind one of Walla Walla’s most respected wineries.

Whether you’re a football fan, a wine lover, or just someone who appreciates a great night out, this is one you won’t want to miss.

Seats are limited and reservations are already moving.
