Pearl came into our home and made it her own. She keeps us on our best behavior. She even barks at us if we stay up too late. She has the soul of a queen and the heart of a saint.

You don’t realize how many chips you were really selling until you say “we only have one box left. Let’s take them home. We like chips!” and weeks later you still have 3/4 of a box of chips.

Update:

Sorry it’s been a bit quiet here. I’ve been waiting until I know more to say much.

The good news is that Pearl’s will be back. The bad news is it’s going to take longer than I thought it would.

Our goal is for Pearl’s to be back in operation early in 2027. While it’s driving me crazy not doing what I love for a while I have plans on how to come back better and faster all while keeping the same high standard of quality and customer service that we’ve been known for.

Not many businesses get the chance to do everything all over again but now with all those hard-earned lessons that a year in the industry teaches you. I’m bummed by what’s going on but also really excited about where I can go from here!

Stay tuned though! I’m not going to make the mistake of losing momentum. Maybe I’ll start posting about the small businesses I respect the most, where to get the good food, or even just market news. Let’s see where I can go with it!

Thank you, all of you, for being the most amazing customers, whether you were getting your weekly George, just stopping by occasionally, even if you never popped in. I know a few of you who never got the chance to get in but liked my posts and told friends about me. I appreciate it all! Thank you!

I get a lot of questions about what’s going on so strap in for my healthcare adventure!

So way back four months ago I had a baker’s cyst in my knee (more or less when a pre-existing knee problem causes knee fluids to push out through the back of the knee) that popped while I was taking groceries up the stairs at the market, literally while I was in the middle of telling Joe “man, my knee is really bugging me.”

After some time off my feet the pain subsided but not even a week later it started to hurt again. I assumed I just went back to work too soon, but it got worse and worse until I would literally be in tears when I left work after a day at the market.

So I went in and got an xray and they said it was some minor arthritis. I was skeptical but who am I to tell a doctor they got it wrong. So I took my steroid shot. When I called a week later saying the steroid shot wasn’t effective they said to wait until my appointment the next month.

When I went to that appointment and told the doc that the steroid didn’t do anything and if anything it’s worse the doc looked surprised, but not as surprised as he looked when I got the results from an MRI. Apparently I’ve been walking on a badly-placed fracture for quite a while and the cartilage in the area is a disaster.

So he gave me a referral for someone I’ll only call Surgeon A. Surgeon A rejected the referral saying I need someone with a different specialty. I googled surgeons of that type and Surgeon A not only came up as the first option but the hospital’s website has a long blurb about how experienced in that field he is so I don’t know if Surgeon A has amnesia or what.

Surgeon B is booked way out and when I said I’ve already waited four months and I can’t wait any more his receptionists (who kept me on hold for an hour and hung up on me twice) were like “oh well we can set you up with an appointment with Doctor C for next week” and when I looked up Doctor C he wasn’t a surgeon and had the same specialty as the referring doctor.

So I went back to referring Doctor (this brings us to yesterday) and exasperated at how much trouble he’s having getting me into a local surgeon he referred me to Ann Arbor.

Ann Arbor has already set me up for an appointment with a surgeon in two days, so keep your fingers crossed.
