Six Years of Angler Pub: A Family, a Dream, and a Whole Lot of Heart
Six years ago, Angler Pub started with a simple, somewhat spontaneous idea.
During the pandemic, Shandi looked at her husband, Ryan, and said, “Hey…let’s open a bar.”
And somehow, that little idea became Angler Pub.
What started as a leap of faith has grown into a thriving, family-owned business built by Ryan and Shandi Patch, alongside their two kids. For the Patch family, Angler Pub has never been just a business. It has been a labor of love—one they have poured their hearts, souls, long hours, and a whole lot of family time into.
Six years later, they are incredibly proud of what Angler has become.
A huge part of that success belongs to the incredible staff who have become part of the Angler family and to the loyal patrons who continue to walk through the doors, order a smash burger, grab a drink, laugh with friends, and make Angler what it is. Without them, none of this would be possible.
Along the way, Angler has also had the privilege of collaborating with some amazing local people and businesses. From partnering with Hubbard’s Bald Mountain Farm to bring farm-fresh Vermont beef to the table for Angler’s famous smash burgers, to their recent partnership with the Rutland County Parent Child Center, where pull-ticket proceeds help support children and families throughout Rutland County, giving back to the community has become an important part of what Angler stands for.
And then there’s downtown Rutland.
The Patches are proud to be part of a community that is growing, changing, and building something exciting. As Millennial business owners themselves, Shandi and Ryan love seeing other young entrepreneurs putting down roots, taking chances, opening businesses, and breathing new life into downtown.
They believe that when local businesses support one another, something special happens—and they are excited to be part of what comes next for Rutland.
Six years in, Angler Pub is still a family business. Still a little scrappy. Still full of heart. Still dreaming up what’s next.
What began with a pandemic-era, “Hey, let’s open a bar,” has turned into six years of friendships, memories, burgers, cold drinks, laughter, community, and a business that means so much to the people who built it.
