πŸ“šπŸ–€ YOU ASKED. YOU BEGGED. BOOK CLUB IS BACK, NEIGHBORS πŸ–€πŸ“š

And because we're incapable of doing anything normally, we're giving you TWO books to choose from.

One for our murder mystery lovers and one for our morally questionable vampire lovers. Pick your poison.

πŸ“– OPTION ONE: The Witch by Freida McFadden

A creepy old mansion, a family full of secrets, strange things happening in the middle of the night, and a woman executed for witchcraft centuries ago who might not be finished haunting the living.

Basically, if you like psychological thrillers, spooky houses, and questioning absolutely everyone, this one's for you.

πŸ¦‡ OPTION TWO: Vow of Eternal Night by Lily Crozier

A gothic enemies to lovers romantasy featuring a terrifying vampire prince, a woman forced to become his bride, and a curse she has to break before she's stuck with him forever.

Think Beauty and the Beast, but make it vampires, dark romance, and questionable taste in men.

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS:

You do NOT have to read both books! Pick whichever sounds like your vibe. Or read both if you're an overachiever with questionable sleep habits. No judgment. We're probably doing the same thing.

Both books are available on Kindle Unlimited!

Expect themed drinks, bookish chaos, wildly unqualified literary opinions, and a room full of people who understand that fictional characters are sometimes more interesting than real ones.

And PLEASE don't feel like you have to be a seasoned book club person to come. We just want to hang out, drink coffee, talk about books, and make some friends. πŸ–€

Now tell us: TEAM WITCH πŸ§™β€β™€οΈ or TEAM VAMPIRE πŸ¦‡

And yes you can absolutely be both. We support bad decisions involving fictional men and suspicious old houses πŸ–€

IT’S JUST A BUNCH OF HOCUS POCUS.

Starting TOMORROW, the Sanderson sisters are taking over The Neighbors. And the drinks? Absolutely unhinged. In the best way πŸ’œ

Now, normally we'd have transformed the entire shop into Salem circa 1693, but between moving into our new building and building a float for the Halloween parade, we're currently operating on caffeine, chaos, and questionable time management πŸ˜‚

So no, we didn't redecorate this time. BUT WE PUT ALL THAT WITCHCRAFT INTO THE DRINKS. And trust us, they're INSANE.

We'll also have a special Hocus Pocus flight benefiting Witchy Warriors, because we love a little witchcraft for a good cause! A portion of flight proceeds will go directly to supporting them.

And really, isn't it worth stopping in just to hear us randomly scream "I SMELL CHILDREN!" and "MAX LIKES YOUR YABBOS!" across the coffee bar?

We cannot promise professionalism. We CAN promise ridiculously good drinks, Hocus Pocus references nobody asked for, and at least one of us taking the bit way too far.

COME, WE FLY! 🧹✨

Neighbors, we need your help finding a home for a very special girl 🐾❀️

Meet Purell. And before you scroll past another shelter dog post, please just give us a minute.

We've visited this sweet girl at Lucas County Canine Care & Control twice now, and the last time, we practically left in tears.

We genuinely cannot understand how nobody has scooped her up yet.

Purell is four years old, and we aren't exaggerating when we say she's probably the chillest dog in that entire shelter. She's gentle, affectionate, ridiculously sweet, and just wants to be loved. She's perfectly happy hanging out beside you, getting some attention, and simply existing in your company.

It's pretty apparent that this girl has been used for breeding. We don't know everything she's been through, but somehow, none of it seems to have taken away her sweetness. She still greets people with a wagging tail and the biggest, happiest smile.

And that absolutely breaks our hearts.

We are actually considering fostering Purell ourselves just to help her find the home she deserves. Because something about this girl has really stuck with us, and we can't stop thinking about her. But maybe she doesn't need to be bounced around...maybe her perfect person is up at 6:45 am reading this and ready to go get her today.

We have built this incredible little community of neighbors who consistently show up for one another, and we can't help but think that somewhere among all of you is the person who is supposed to be Purell's forever family.

Maybe it's you. Maybe it's your mom, your best friend, or someone who has been thinking about adopting but hasn't found the right dog yet.

We just want someone to give this girl the chance she deserves.

She's already spent enough of her life being useful to someone. Now we'd really love to see her spend the rest of it just being loved.

If you're interested in meeting Purell, please reach out to LC4. And if you can't adopt, please share this post.

We have a whole neighborhood here. Surely we can find one sweet girl a couch to call her own πŸ₯Ήβ€οΈπŸΎ

Let's find Purell her people.

πŸ“šβ€οΈ TODAY IS THE DAY! GRANDPA JOE IS COMING TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD! β€οΈπŸ“š

Today at 4 PM, we have a very special guest joining us at The Neighbors Coffee & Books!

A little while ago, the sweetest gentleman walked through our doors with books of poetry he'd written. His name is Joseph G. Kozlowski, but naturally, we've adopted him and decided he's Grandpa Joe now. πŸ₯Ή

He's in his 80s, a retired Marine, a poet, and one of those people you meet and immediately wish you had hours to sit and listen to.

And his poetry is REALLY good.

Today he's coming back to sign and sell his books, and we'd love nothing more than to send him home with every copy sold.

But more than anything, we want to give him an afternoon full of good conversation, new friends, and the kind of love this little neighborhood does so well.

Come grab a coffee, pull up a chair, and get to know Grandpa Joe.

Because community isn't just about knowing your neighbors. It's about making sure they feel known ❀️

NEIGHBOR OF THE WEEK: OUR DEZ❀️

Some people walk into your coffee shop as customers and somehow end up becoming family. And if there was ever a perfect example of that, it's our Desiree.

Dez started as a customer, became an employee, and somewhere along the way became one of our very best friends. And we genuinely cannot imagine The Neighbors without her.

If you've met Dez, you know. She's one of the sweetest, most thoughtful, genuinely beautiful humans you'll ever meet. She's the kind of person who remembers the little things, shows up for people, and makes everyone around her feel loved.

But what makes Dez even more extraordinary is the heart she carries after experiencing a loss no parent should ever have to endure.

Dez lost her son, and through getting to know her and hearing her story, A Night for the Littlest Neighbors was born. Her love for her baby helped create a night where other families could come together to remember theirs. And we will forever be grateful that she trusted us with something so personal. And shortly after that we all became inseparable and now she works here 🫢🏽

We started this coffee shop hoping we'd meet some pretty wonderful people. We never imagined we'd find someone like Dez.

She's proof that sometimes the most beautiful things to come out of this little coffee shop have absolutely nothing to do with coffee.

Dez, we love you. We're grateful for your friendship, your enormous heart, and every little thing you bring to our lives.

You may be our Neighbor of the Week, but you're stuck with us for life now. Sorry, we don't make the rules πŸ˜‚β€οΈ

Everybody, give our Dez some love. She deserves every bit of it 🫢

What if your favorite coffee flavor was also a soap?

Because apparently just drinking coffee wasn't enough for us. Now we want to bathe in it, too 🀣

Our incredibly talented friend at Wandering Hen Homestead and Apiary has been working her magic and CUSTOM MAKING soaps inspired by our coffee flavors here at The Neighbors! πŸ–€

Yes, you read that correctly. Your favorite coffee shop is now enabling your caffeine obsession in an entirely new way.

These aren't just random soaps we slapped our name on. They were thoughtfully created just for us, with scents inspired by the flavors you know and love from our little neighborhood coffee shop. Literally, our actual beans are in the soap πŸ₯Ή

And can we just talk about how freaking cool it is to have another small business bring one of our ridiculous ideas to life?!

We LOVE getting to work with talented local makers, especially when they understand our vision and run with it.

So now you can smell like your favorite coffee without actually spilling an entire latte on yourself. Which, honestly, is a huge improvement for some of us (looking at you Lauren Rasberry) β˜•οΈπŸ˜‚

Because supporting small businesses is kind of our love language.

And because apparently we're slowly becoming a coffee shop, bookstore, antique store, and bath and body boutique all rolled into one.

Tell us: If you could turn ANY of our coffee flavors into a soap, which one would you choose?! πŸ‘€

πŸ–€ WE'RE BACK, NEIGHBORS. A LITTLE HEARTBROKEN, A LOT BEHIND, AND APPARENTLY ENTERING OUR HOCUS POCUS ERA πŸ§™β€β™€οΈβœ¨

First, we owe you all a little apology for being MIA lately. We promise we haven't fallen into a cauldron or abandoned the neighborhood. Life has just been doing what life does best lately: throwing approximately a million things at us at once.

We took a little trip to Nashville, and the night we returned, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to say goodbye to our sweet Lucy, very late at night πŸ’”

Lucy was 12 years old, and we'd had her for almost her entire life. She was essentially a shared dog between our two households, loved by both families, and genuinely one of the sweetest, most loving souls you could ever meet. If you've ever loved a dog, you know that they aren't just dogs. They're family. They're part of your everyday life, your routines, and your home. And suddenly, there's a Lucy shaped hole in all of those things.

We're going to miss our sweet girl more than words can explain, and we are working on a very important and exciting way to honor her and give back to the doggy community 🀍🐾

So we've been a little quieter than usual. Between the move, life, and losing Lucy, we've needed a minute. We're sad, we're tired, but we're still here, and we're moving forward. Because this little neighborhood we've built means far too much to us to stop.

NOW, ON TO SOME VERY IMPORTANT NEIGHBORHOOD BUSINESS.

πŸ“š TOMORROW AT 4 PM β€” GRANDPA JOE'S BOOK SIGNING!

Please, please come see our sweet Grandpa Joe tomorrow, Friday, October 16th, at 4 PM!

If you missed our post about him, Grandpa Joe (whose real name is Joseph G. Kozlowski) is a retired Marine, a poet, and quite possibly one of the sweetest gentlemen we've ever met. He's in his 80s, has a lifetime of stories to share, and his poetry is genuinely wonderful.

We would absolutely LOVE to see this community show up for him. Come buy a book, have a conversation, and make this sweet man's day. Our goal is still to send him home with an empty box of books and a very full heart πŸ₯Ήβ€οΈ

πŸ§™β€β™€οΈ IT'S JUST A BUNCH OF HOCUS POCUS!

That's right. We're officially entering our HOCUS POCUS ERA, and things are about to get a little witchy around here.

We're talking ridiculous drinks, spooky concoctions, and the kind of Halloween chaos you've come to expect from us.

AND we're creating a special Hocus Pocus coffee flight benefiting Witchy Warriors and their cause! πŸ–€πŸ’œπŸ’š

Because you know us. We can't just make fun drinks. We have to find a way to do some good while we're at it.

More details and magical nonsense are coming VERY soon. We've got some tricks up our sleeves. And probably an unreasonable amount of toppings.

🏰 ONE MORE BIG UPDATE: THE GALA IS BECOMING A WINTER BALL!

With everything happening during our move, we've decided to move our gala to winter and transform it into a WINTER BALL IN OUR NEW BUILDING!β„οΈπŸ•―οΈ

And honestly? We think it's going to be even more magical this way. A beautiful new space, and the opportunity to make it everything we've been dreaming of. We'll share more details as everything comes together!

And finally, thank you.

Thank you for giving us grace when we're quiet. Thank you for loving the weird little things we create. Thank you for showing up for people like Grandpa Joe, for supporting the causes that matter, and for making this place so much more than a coffee shop.

We're navigating a lot of change right now. Some of it is exciting, some of it is exhausting, and some of it just plain hurts.

But we're still here. Still dreaming too big. Still making ridiculous drinks. Still trying to make this little corner of the world a little kinder.

And doing it all with a little extra love for our Lucy 🀍🐾

See you tomorrow for Grandpa Joe. And witches, get your brooms ready πŸ§Ήβ˜•οΈ

πŸ’š Today is World PANS/PANDAS Awareness Day

One of our neighbors recently shared that their child has PANDAS, a condition that is often misunderstood, overlooked, or misdiagnosed. And we thought it was worth talking about considering the correlation it has with things we've shared in the past.

PANS/PANDAS can cause sudden, significant changes in a child's behavior and mental health, including anxiety, OCD symptoms, intense anger, emotional outbursts, and sometimes even suicidal thoughts.

Sometimes the kids we label as "bad," "difficult," or even bullies are fighting battles we can't see.

We're not doing a special drink or fundraiser today. We just want to spread a little awareness, because maybe there's a parent out there searching for answers who needs to hear about this.

Not every behavior is simply a behavior problem. Sometimes there's something deeper going on πŸ’š

And being neighbors means looking out for all of our kids.

❀️ NEIGHBOR OF THE WEEK: TYRUS! ❀️

If you've been to The Neighbors, chances are you've met one of our absolute favorite humans. And if you haven't, we'd like to introduce you to Tyrus πŸ₯Ήβ€οΈ

Tyrus comes to see us every single day, and every single day, he manages to make ours a little brighter.

He's a Bookmark kind of guy. So much so that Tyrus has his very own button on our register 🀣 Because when you're part of the foundation of a place, you deserve VIP treatment.

But here's the thing about Tyrus. It's not just that he's a regular. It's that his presence genuinely makes our days better. His smile, his personality, the joy he brings through our doors...he's one of those people who reminds us exactly why we wanted to create The Neighbors in the first place.

And we can't talk about Tyrus without talking about his wonderful mom, Chantillie ❀️

We absolutely adore them both. Getting to know them, seeing them every day, and having them become part of our little coffee shop family has been one of the sweetest gifts of this whole adventure.

When we say The Neighbors is about more than coffee, this is what we mean. It's about knowing someone's order before they even ask. It's about having your own button on the register. It's about looking forward to seeing the same faces every day because somewhere along the way, customers stopped feeling like customers and started feeling like family.

Tyrus and Chantillie, we hope you know just how loved you are here. We don't take for granted that you choose to spend a little piece of your day with us, every single day.

Our shop wouldn't be quite as bright without you two in it.

And Tyrus? That button isn't going anywhere. ❀️

We love you, buddy. Thanks for being our neighbor πŸ₯Ή
