After eating a great breakfast Saturday morning…. Congratulations team!
ROMEO SOFTBALL WINS DISTRICT TITLE
The Romeo High Softball Team met a few benchmarks on this District Saturday. The 25-Win mark was met, as Romeo defeated Stoney Creek 6-1 and Utica Eisenhower 12-2 (5 innings) for the District 31 Championship. Additionally, the District Championship is Romeo's 1st in ten years. Individually, Sarah Jesperson tied the Single-Season School Record for Most Doubles (17-Morgan Gardner, 2013).
Senior Pitcher, Katie Murphy was "on". Murphy pitched a Complete Game in Game 1, surrendering just 1 Earned Run on 5 hits, 1 walk, with 8 strikeouts. Stoney Creek batted just .192 as a team.
The Bulldog bats were "on" too, tallying 13 hits. Helena Murphy went 2 for 3 with an RBi and stolen base; she also made 2 outstanding plays (diving catch and assist at the plate from right field). 4 players were 2 for 4 at the plate: Bailey Anton (2B, SB), Sarah Jesperson (RBI, SB), Phoebe Maximiuk ((RBI), and Ava Yaklin (2 2B, 3 RBI). Maddie Blankenship, Evie Condon, and Mae Myers each recorded a hit.
Defensively, the team played solid defense making key plays in key situations.
Game 2 versus Eisenhower was more of the same. Romeo surged for 5 runs in the first inning, which led to a 5-inning, 12-2, Complete Game WIn for the Bulldogs.
Katie Murphy continued her pitching dominance, giving up 3 hits, 1 earned run, 0 walks, while striking out 5 and allowing a .158 Opponent Batting Average.
Ava Yaklin was a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate, notching 2 singles and 2 doubles, while knocking in 6! Bailey Anton (3B), Evie Condon (2B, 2 RBI), and Mae Myers (RBI) were close behind, going 3 for 4 in the game. Sarah Jesperson (2B), Maddie Blankenship, Gabbie Huyghe, Phoebe Maximiuk, and Helena Murphy all reached base safely in the contest. As a team, the Bulldogs recorded 18 total hits in just 5 innings.
Romeo travels to Oxford, to play Oxford on Saturday, June 6th.
