Spotlight Time! Alex Ramos

At 16 years old, he started at the original Dunn Hwy 55 as a minimum-wage employee, balancing two jobs while trying to find his way in the world. But there was something different about Hwy 55—it felt like family.

When the location’s operator unexpectedly left, he stepped up to help. That decision changed everything. He was told, “If you run it as you own it, I’ll make sure you own it.” At just 20 years old, that promise became reality as he became a business owner through in-house financing.

His journey wasn’t perfect. There were setbacks, mistakes, and plenty of lessons along the way. But he kept moving forward, living by a simple philosophy: “Outwork your mistakes.”

With opportunities from Kenney Moore, hard work, and the support of the people around him, his operations grew—and so did his family. Today, his wife, Amanda, and their three daughters have all worked alongside him.

From a teenage employee to a multi-location owner, his story is a reminder of what makes Hwy 55 special: opportunity, commitment, hard work, and people willing to help you succeed.

Spotlight Time!

Brian Davis's Hwy 55 story began in 1995 with a shrimp burger, a 50% employee food discount, and what he thought was a pretty good deal. He never imagined that simple decision would change the course of his life.

By 21, Brian had become a business owner. Over the years, he opened and operated numerous locations, helped prove Hwy 55 could thrive beyond Eastern NC, and became part of a culture built around helping others succeed.

But Brian’s journey also brought incredible hardship. After losing his wife suddenly, he found himself struggling to find his way. Through some of his darkest moments, his Hwy 55 family never stopped reaching out. That support, along with the love of his family, helped Brian find his way back.

Today, Brian owns the Arlington Blvd. location in Greenville and travels throughout the company, helping others succeed. His goal is simple: to sell four locations to people whose lives can be changed by the opportunity, just as his was.

Because at Hwy 55, success isn’t just about building restaurants—it’s about building people.

Spotlight time!

Heather Laufer’s Hwy 55 story began when she was just 16 or 17 years old, working as a waitress. What started as a teenage job became a journey of determination, leadership, and eventually ownership.

Heather worked her way up to managing the Knightdale location, saving everything she could with the dream of one day owning her own restaurant. Then an opportunity in Fuquay came along—and Hwy 55 did something that changed everything. Instead of requiring Heather to navigate traditional bank financing, Kenney believed in her and financed the restaurant himself.

In 2017, at just 25 years old, Heather became a Hwy 55 owner.

Today, her restaurant is more than a business—it’s a family affair. Her two young boys, ages 3 and 5, join her several days a week, helping set up in the mornings and even passing out menus. And now, while eight months pregnant, Heather is still going strong as she prepares to welcome her first daughter.

From teenage waitress to business owner and mom, Heather’s story is a beautiful example of what happens when hard work meets an opportunity—and someone willing to believe in you.
