We're collecting old photos of Montcalm, Bluewell, Matoaka, Rock and Brushfork to celebrate our local history here at Backwoods!

Coal miners, old businesses, fire stations, historic homes, family photos, school days, churches, parades, sports teams — anything that captures our little corner of Southern WV.

You keep the originals! If you have access to a scanner, a scanned copy works best — otherwise, a clear, well-lit phone photo of the picture works too. Post it in the comments. Know the year or a story behind it? Share that too!

We'll be featuring some submissions around Backwoods as part of a tribute to our community. Tag anyone whose family's been here for generations — let's get them digging through those albums!

🇺🇸 Happy 250th Birthday, America! ❤️🤍💙

From all of us at Backwoods Retreat, we wish you and your family a safe, happy, and memorable Fourth of July weekend!

To help celebrate America’s 250th birthday, we proudly raised our new 60-foot flagpole and are flying Old Glory high over Backwoods Retreat. It’s our way of honoring this incredible country, the freedoms we enjoy, and the people who make America such a special place to call home.

As our nation celebrates this historic milestone, we’re grateful for this wonderful community and excited for what’s ahead.

We’re still putting the finishing touches on the restaurant and making it a place where friends, families, riders, and neighbors can gather to create lasting memories. While we don’t have an official opening date just yet, we promise we’ll keep you updated every step of the way—and when the doors open, we’ll celebrate together!

Until then, enjoy the fireworks, make memories with the people you love, stay safe on the trails, and take a moment to appreciate the flag flying over our little corner of West Virginia. We hope it reminds everyone who passes by just how proud we are to call this home.

This isn’t your average baked potato… 😏🔥

Our buffalo chicken is hand-breaded in our own house blend, tossed in buffalo sauce, loaded with melty cheese, and finished with our house-made ranch 🤤

All stacked on a 1LB baked potato (before filling!)

Nothing fancy—just real food done right.

Another incredible event happening this weekend! Make sure you stop by and support this event! Belinda Meadows and her team really put something special together! And hopefully we will see some of yall out!

Join us at Rider’s Paradise – Coal Country Bar & Grill on April 25 from 4–6 PM for a special raffle to support two local families going through unimaginable hardships.

Logan Richardson is currently facing a serious heart condition and will need a heart transplant to survive. His family is preparing for a long and challenging journey filled with medical treatments, hospital stays, and travel.

We are also honoring the life of baby Cooper Brown, a micro preemie who fought bravely for two months before passing. His family continues to carry this heartbreaking loss.

💚 All raffle proceeds will be split between both families to help with medical expenses and to support them during this difficult time.

Come out, show your support, and help make a difference. Even the smallest act of kindness can go a long way.
