This January has been one of the hardest months I’ve ever experienced in 17 years of running my small business.

Honestly… it’s breaking me.

The cold weather has been brutal. People aren’t going out. Sales have dropped almost 50%. Some days we unlock the doors and just wait… hoping someone walks in.

Bills don’t stop.
Rent doesn’t stop.
Expenses don’t stop.

But customers stop.

I survived COVID, and I truly thought that was the worst thing we would ever face. But somehow this month feels even harder.

Running a small business isn’t just “owning a shop.” It’s carrying everything on your shoulders — the stress, the bills, the responsibility, the long hours — and for me, even my health.

Some days I honestly ask myself…
Should I keep going?
Should I even continue doing this?

But it’s not just me.

It’s my staff too.

They’re not just employees — they’re families. Parents. Students. People who depend on these hours to pay rent, buy groceries, and take care of their kids. When business slows down, their pay drops too. They struggle too.

When you spend money at big chains, they don’t feel it.

But small businesses like ours feel it immediately.

So I’m asking our community, from the heart:

Skip the chains.
Skip chain restaurants.
Choose local coffee shops.
Choose local restaurants.
Shop small stores and farmers markets.

Every single dollar you spend locally helps a real person right here in Rochester.

Because when you support small businesses, you’re not just buying something —
you’re helping a family stay afloat,
helping someone keep their job,
helping a dream stay alive.

If we don’t support each other, small businesses will slowly disappear. And once they’re gone, they’re gone for good.

Please don’t wait until your favorite local places close.

It's Friday!!! & just like the Turkey on our window says, we are "Ready for You!" So give us a call to make your reservations this weekend for an awesome dinner experience with your family and/or friends at one of our hibachi tables, where our talented chefs prepare each meal with flair before your eyes! On a side note, we think this beautiful turkey, done by Todd's window art, should have a name, but we can't decide on one. Help us pick a good name for him! The person whose name we pick will get a $15 dollar gift card! The staff will pick a name on October 30th, so be sure to get your name idea in by the 29th!
