Did you know that “ceremonial matcha” is a marketing term completely made up by western society? It is not even used in Japan when assessing quality matcha nor is it regulated. Some key criteria that you should use when finding a quality matcha are:

1. Where was it grown? Uji, Japan is the birthplace of matcha and a lot of quality matches come from there. However- Yame, Shizuoka, Nishio & Kyoto are some other areas that are known for their matcha🇯🇵

2. When was it harvested? You want the first flush, or Shincha matcha. This means its’s only made of tea leaves that were grown during the first spring harvest. Why is this better? First harvest retains the most nutrients during the wintertime- resulting in better tasting and quality matcha. It also represents a successful harvest of a new year✨shin = new, cha = tea

3. Color? The matcha should be a vibrant green! There are many different shades of green depending on the region but it should never look yellow or stale. 🌱

There are many other factors that can go into getting a quality matcha but these are the basic things you should be looking for💗🌞
