You always think of the holidays as full of joy and peace, but it's not that way for everyone or all the time. Especially to those that are grieving or afflicted, it can be a very hard time. I know so many this year that are going through unfathomable tragedies.

Even just the stress of spending and preparing for the holidays and illnesses and exhaustion that come with the season can be too much so that we lose sight of the reason for the season and the thing that brings us joy in the first place.

It's different than happiness. Because Joy and peace does not come magically out of thin air only at Christmas time, it comes from being grateful and remembering what is important and having faith and clinging to it, and putting aside our grief for a moment to celebrate. As counterintuitive as it may seem, Joy can indeed be found in the midst of tragedy and sadness. Because Joy also encompasses the unquenchable hope that is the Spirit and the heart of the message of Christmas.

On that note, I wish all of you a very Merry Christmas, no matter what circumstances you may be encountering....prayers for healing, joy and the peace that transcends all understanding.

Psalm 30: 1-5
