Oakford Pool Room: A Richwood Landmark Still Serving the Community

Richwood, West Virginia — Among the businesses that have served generations of Richwood residents, the historic Oakford Pool Room stands as a remarkable connection to the city's past. Originally known as The Oakford Pool Hall, the establishment has continued operating for generations and remains a living piece of Richwood's 20th-century history.

The present location opened in 1935, and much of its historic character can still be seen today. The original back bar and service bar remain part of the establishment, giving visitors a glimpse into an earlier era of Richwood when pool halls and neighborhood gathering places played an important role in community life.

Over the decades, the Oakford Pool Room has evolved with the times while preserving its historic identity. What was once primarily known as a pool hall is now a full-service restaurant, offering a large menu with a variety of favorites.

Today, customers can enjoy homemade fare, their favorite b**rs and carry-out b**rs, along with cold root b**r on tap.

For longtime Richwood residents, the Oakford Pool Room is more than a place to eat. Its continued operation represents a connection between generations — a business where the building itself helps tell the story of Richwood's past.

As many businesses that once lined Richwood's streets have disappeared or changed over the years, the Oakford Pool Room remains a reminder of the community's commercial heritage and the businesses that helped shape everyday life in the city.

With its original bar features, long history and continued service to the community, the Oakford Pool Room remains one of Richwood's enduring landmarks — carrying a piece of the city's history into the present day.photo Steve Flynn
