Tomorrow is JUNETEENTH, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. It marks the day in 1865 when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to ensure all enslaved people were freed, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. While there were many activities in Richmond and Berea last Saturday observing the holiday, tomorrow is the official federal holiday with most governmental and other offices (banks, etc) closed. Whatever you have planned for tomorrow, make sure you stop by the Richmond Paddy Wagon and/or any of the several other bars and restaurants in downtown Richmond for a cold one and a bite to eat. With temps in the high 70s and no rain, it looks like a perfect afternoon to hang out on our deck!!
