RVA.SUPPORT now hosts OpenSmile, a free initiative connecting the unhoused with local dental practices willing to lend a hand.

We're looking for dentists throughout the Richmond area who might be willing to offer services at no cost.

Maybe it's one patient a month. Maybe it's a cleaning or a filling, helping someone who's been living with dental pain.

You choose the services, the number of people you can help, and what you're able to charge.

OpenSmile simply makes the connection. We don't collect medical records or manage treatment. Once you accept a request, you work directly with the patient.

We’re building an enclosure for our community fridge at Abi’s, and we could use a little help!

We’ll do the building ourselves, with materials estimated at $850. We’ve raised $35 so far, and every entry helps us get closer.

You might take home a boombox and some fun retro tapes! We just found U2 and Michael Jackson tapes to add to the mix. Full tape list coming soon.

History remembers who tried to silence it. We have a shelf of banned books you can borrow at Abi's, so celebrate Banned Books Week (October 4 to 10) year-round at Abi's.

If you’ve talked books with me for any length of time, I'm sure I've mentioned A Soldier of the Great War by Mark Helprin.

Alessandro, a man nearing the end, walking with a young stranger, tells the story of life paired with war, love, beauty, and loss. What stays with me is his capacity to keep loving a world that has taken so much.

“When love and memory are overwhelming, and the soul, though crushed, takes flight, it does so in a simple song.”

In other words, we can suffer and still find something worth loving.

I love curating books (most often with my youngest daughter). Estate sales, online book auctions, wandering RVA. Today, we have four copies.

We’re raffling off TWO boombox + cassette bundles to help build an enclosure for the community fridge at Abi’s!

Proceeds support The Milena Chapter’s community fridge efforts, starting with the enclosure. Anything raised beyond the build will help support and stock the fridge for our neighbors.
