🍎 Help Ms. Dexter stock her first kindergarten classroom!

Juliana recently graduated from UVA with her master’s in elementary education and will be teaching at Bellevue Elementary in Church Hill.

We loved learning that Abi’s is where she first met her new teacher teammates this summer. 💛

Bellevue is a Title I school, so every little bit helps. Consider purchasing an item from her classroom wish list or sharing this post.

*update to a deleted post explained in the comments*

After leaving Abi’s this morning, I saw this. An older neighbor, someone who should be able to feel secure, was instead camping beside a highway exit. This should not be an unavoidable part of life in City of Richmond, VA.

While our non-profit arm has been working on OpenBed, a bed for the night is not the same as a home. Shelters don’t provide privacy, permanence or the sense of belonging every person needs.

Eden Village .village of Richmond is working toward a better way: a permanent tiny-home community built around housing, supportive relationships, and dignity for neighbors experiencing chronic homelessness.

Do you remember those CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE books? (Or maybe that’s just me.)

There was something magical about never quite knowing what you’d find on the next page.

That’s a little like browsing our shelves. One minute it's a book on Gregorian chant, the next it’s a memoir about growing up in the mountains, philosophy, humor, history, or something wonderfully strange you never knew you needed.

We just put out a fresh, interesting, unexpected, and hard to categorize books. Come browse and choose your own reading adventure before they disappear.

It just feels like there should be a "Folgers in your cup" type of song for cold brew... regardless, it's a nice way to start my day. In fact, one of our regulars just walked 20 minutes to enjoy a large cold brew. Give it a try!

A huge thank you to Bugle Call Coffee for the Morning Formation beans used for it.

🔥 Abi’s Banned & Burned Book Club for August 🔥

Next month, we’re discussing Sky Full of Elephants by Cebo Campbell, a speculative novel about race, identity, family, and what remains after an unjust world is suddenly changed.

Annita (in the group) suggested the book, and I shared that , my friend Vance, had recommended it to me during one of our early-morning conversations about social justice and activism. Then, in one of those strange reminders that the universe is always connected somehow, Vance reached out the very next day.

As a white reader, I’m approaching this book not as an authority but an opportunity to see the world through Charlie and Sidney’s (or Vance & Annita's) eyes.
