For years, I’ve heard your stories of love - first dates, last dates, bringing babies and babes to see your favorite place, meeting someone and falling in love, all ways connection manifests have happened in our space.

I want to create an anthology zine series with our stories and yours. If you’d rather send a voice memo or something and I can turn it into a story, that works too. Whatever you’re comfortable sharing. It can be anonymous or not. You can even write it for yourself and never share it with me. A little journal exercise if you will.

Once you’ve gotten something down, send it to loveatharrisonstreetcafeATprotonDOTme. Photos, drawings, whatever accompaniment you’d like can be considered.

Looking forward to sharing whatever we collect back out to the community!

Friends…way back when we used to have all kinds of people doing all kinds of things in our space. We wanna do that again. Soooo…starting in March there will be an open mic night the 1st and 3rd Wednesday nights. I don’t have all the details of what will be happening but I think anything is game if you wanna share it from the mic. Music. Spoken word. Lectures on your recent special interest deep dive. Whatevs. Sign ups at 7pm!

For folks who may have missed this way back when era of Harrison Street Cafe AKA Harrison Street Coffee Shop, we used to have shows, 804Noise, art openings, board game nights, and more wacky s**t on the regular. Maybe we will again someday, but for now, we’re starting by having this in our space and hope you’ll come by and support the folks putting it together.

Other people have shared wise words on the subject of a nationwide shutdown. Some debate the merits of a day of action like this. I appreciated what Studio Two Three and Virginia Defenders for Freedom, Justice & Equality had to share and recommend you check that out. One foot in front of the other. We've been closed all week for one reason or another related to the storm and we're choosing to remain closed on Friday in solidarity. Staff will be paid for their shifts and we'll continue finding ways big and small to show up for the world we want to live in.

We've decided to remain closed on Tuesday the 27th. Some roads are still impassable and not all of us live within walking distance of the shop. Hoping to get things rolling again on Wednesday and will post here when we know!
