Friends of the Table: Ruth Easterling

One of the greatest joys at Luther's Table is seeing community leaders find a place to share their gifts and passions, partnering with others to create spaces where people can grow.

For the past year, Ruth Easterling has partnered with Luther's Table to lead Empowering Women to Lead, a monthly gathering that encourages, equips, and connects women throughout our community. When asked why Luther's Table matters, Ruth shared these words:

Thank you, Ruth, for your partnership, your leadership, and for helping create spaces where people can discover their gifts, find connection, and grow into who they are called to be.

Stories like Ruth's remind us that Luther's Table is more than a building. It is a place where people gather, learn, create, heal, and belong.

Interested in learning more? Ruth's next Empowering Women to Lead gathering is this Thursday, June 18, from 9โ€“10 AM at Luther's Table. The workshop is free and open to all women who are looking to grow, connect, and be encouraged in their leadership journey. Itโ€™s the second Thursday of the month, and you know what that means... Weโ€™re celebrating June birthdays this Thursday at Open Mic Night!

Every Thursday from 7:00โ€“10:00 PM, Lutherโ€™s Table transforms into a space where people can share their voice, their work, and their art. Musicians, poets, comedians, storytellers, and first-time performers are all welcome.

Open Mic is more than a stage. Itโ€™s a community. A place where artists are encouraged, creativity is nurtured, and people are invited to take risks in a supportive and welcoming environment. Whether youโ€™re performing, cheering on a friend, or simply enjoying an evening of live local talent, thereโ€™s a place for you here.

Free admission. Hospitality available by free-will donation.

Come celebrate, connect, and be part of a community that believes every voice matters.

Co-Create Night is happening TONIGHT, June 10 from 7:00โ€“8:30 PM. All are welcome for a Market Tote Makeover as we get ready for summer farmers market season together.

Bring an old tote bag to refresh and personalize, or design a new one from scratch. Weโ€™ll have paints, patches, beads, buttons, embroidery supplies, charms, and plenty of creative inspiration to share. Look at us putting those embroidery skills to good use.

Supplies will be provided, and you are welcome to bring extra materials to share if youโ€™d like. Come create, connect, and leave with something uniquely yours.

All abilities welcome.

A Force for Change

This weekend, I attended the Northwest Washington Synod Gathering, and got to listen to some really great conversations about generosity and stewardship.

One question has stayed with me: How are we giving and receiving generously?๏ปฟ
๏ปฟ
When many of us hear the word stewardship, we think about money. But stewardship is about so much more than that. It is about how we care for what has been entrusted to us. Our spaces. Our relationships. Our gifts. Our communities. Our stories.๏ปฟ
๏ปฟ
As I sat with that question, I found myself thinking about Luther's Table. Every day, I witness generosity here. I see it in the person who notices the toilet paper is running low and quietly replaces it. I see it in the person who stays a little longer to wash dishes or stack chairs. I see it in congregations that share resources, help us print materials, the people who water plants, build cabinets, repair lights, and show up when something needs attention.๏ปฟ
๏ปฟ
I see it in the grants and donations that keep the doors open. I see it in monthly donors who faithfully invest in this community. I see it in musicians and artists who share their gifts, volunteers who share their time, and neighbors who share their stories.๏ปฟ
๏ปฟ
The truth is that everything we do is possible because of generosity. ๏ปฟ๏ปฟAnd yet generosity at Luther's Table is never one-directional.

People come for a meal and find connection. They come for an event and discover community. They come looking for support and leave knowing they have something to offer. Again and again, I watch people receive generously and then turn around and give generously.๏ปฟ
๏ปฟ
One of the speakers shared a simple phrase:"Generosity is a force for change." And I think that's true. Generosity changes people. It changes communities. It creates possibilities that did not exist before. It makes room for nourishment, belonging, creativity, and hope.

The funny thing about generosity is that everyone can participate in it. No matter where you are in life, everyone has something to give and something to receive. At Luther's Table, we often talk about reciprocal hospitality: the understanding that we are both hosts and guests, both givers and receivers. Generosity works much the same way. As we steward the gifts, relationships, and resources entrusted to us, we are invited to share out of abundance rather than scarcity. Generosity is not one-directional; it is reciprocal. It flows between us, strengthening community and reminding us that we all have something to offer and something to receive.

I invite you to watch out for it, and be a part of the force of change! Every day, I see that force at work here and I thank you for being part of the story.

With gratitude,
Deacon Bobbi

Community is shaped by the people who gather around the table.

As Lutherโ€™s Table continues to grow and evolve, we want to keep listening well to the hopes, experiences, ideas, and stories of this community. We recently created a Community Engagement Feedback Survey as a way to hear what is meaningful, what is nourishing, and what dreams people carry for the future of Lutherโ€™s Table.

This short survey explores connection, community, nourishment of mind, body, and spirit, and the kinds of gatherings and experiences that help people feel seen, connected, inspired, and supported. There is also space to share stories, reflections, hopes, and ideas for the future.

Whether youโ€™ve attended one event or have been part of Lutherโ€™s Table for years, your voice matters and helps shape the ongoing story of this community.

Please take a few moments to share your story, reflections, and hopes with us through the survey here: https://forms.gle/yNGoDGNcWW84cktv5

If youโ€™ve spent time at Open Mic, chances are youโ€™ve heard Delicaโ€™s voice.

Through music, Delica shares pieces of her story, songs shaped by resilience, healing, and hope. But long before she stepped up to the microphone, she was simply someone looking for connection and acceptance during a difficult season of life.

As we prepare to widen the table and welcome 25 new Friends of the Table, weโ€™re sharing stories from people whose lives have been shaped by this community. Delica recently shared these words:
