A Statement About a Photo Recently Posted
A photo we recently posted from the Portage County Fair has been widely misinterpreted, and we want to set the record straight.
The Horseshoe Diner was honored to serve lunch to approximately 30 school-age children at the Portage County Fair. These were children in need of a meal, and we provided that service. When we posted this photo, we were not aware of the video or the Sheriff's conduct that has since come to light. The photo was simply our way of documenting a meaningful charitable moment.
Out of respect for the children's privacy, we could not share their images. This photo served to acknowledge the work we were honored to do that day.
The photo was never posted as an endorsement of any individual, but rather as a record of the Horseshoe Diner doing what we do: serving our community.
We also have since learned of the Sheriff's controversial remarks about some members in the military. Those comments are offensive and do not reflect our community's values. I want to be direct: the Horseshoe Diner is deeply committed to supporting our veterans and service members through meals, donations, and genuine respect for their sacrifice. We serve over 300 meals to veterans annually at no charge. We do not align ourselves with anyone who demeans those who serve.
For over a decade, the Horseshoe Diner has supported military causes, veterans' organizations, our schools, seniors, and countless families and individuals in need. We have never asked about anyone's politics when someone asked for help. We don't plan to start. When a child needs to eat, we feed that child. That principle has guided us, and it always will.
We are grateful for the overwhelming support from our community during this time. We will continue serving those in need. Should we be asked to serve children at the fair again, we will do it without hesitation.
