Our hearts are with the family and friends of Jaiden Odom and the entire Baptist Hill community. There really aren’t words for a loss like this.

Our hearts are heavy as the Baptist Hill family mourns the loss of one of our own, Jaiden Odom. 🤍

Jaiden will forever be a part of Baptist Hill, and his memory will live on in the halls, on the field, and in the hearts of his classmates, teammates, teachers, coaches, and the entire Bobcat community.

Our hearts, prayers, and deepest condolences are with Jaiden’s family and loved ones during this unimaginable time. May they feel the love and support of the entire Baptist Hill community surrounding them.

🐕 So… who exactly IS Yodi?

Funny enough, there wasn’t some brilliant branding strategy behind the name Yodi Dog Coffee.

I needed a name. I loved the name Yodi. I loved my dog. And I loved the idea that maybe someday this little coffee business could help rescue animals.

That was pretty much it. 😂

But the more we’ve learned about Yodi over the years, the more I think I accidentally chose the perfect dog to build a brand around.

We found Yodi as a puppy wandering along the road on Johns Island. She was severely underweight, covered in fleas, and her ears had been cut or damaged before we ever found her.

She got in the car with us, came home, and became family.

But Yodi has never been quite like any other dog we’ve known.

She’s incredibly intelligent and observant. Independent, but fiercely bonded to her family. She watches everything. She hunts with an almost ridiculous amount of patience and strategy. She proudly brings us her catches. She’s affectionate without being needy, confident, adaptable and very much seems to operate by her own set of rules.

And lately we’ve started wondering…

What if Yodi is actually a Carolina Dog — or at least has some primitive Carolina Dog ancestry? 👀

We have absolutely no proof of that. 😂 She’s a roadside special as far as we’re concerned.

But Carolina Dogs are a primitive dog type with a long history in the American Southeast, and when we started reading about their independence, intelligence, strong prey drive, family bonds and survival instincts… we couldn’t help looking at Yodi a little differently.

Especially considering where and how we found her.

Maybe she’s part Carolina Dog. Maybe she’s a glorious Lowcountry mutt who just happens to behave like one.

Either way, there’s something pretty incredible about looking back at that painfully skinny little puppy and realizing what she became.

A hunter. A protector. A family dog. A survivor.

And, somehow…

the namesake of an entire coffee company. ☕️🐕😂

Turns out I may have put more thought into the name than I realized. ❤️
