Rapid City Central high school student Jaylen Rood was recently honored by Rapid City Mayor Jason Salamun and the Rapid City Council. Rood was recognized for “exceptional bravery, courage and quick thinking in the face of imminent danger.”
Quoting from the certificate:
“While riding recently on a Rapid Transit System bus, Jaylen demonstrated extraordinary presence of mind and selflessness. Jaylen witnessed a passenger assaulting the bus driver and instinctively and without hesitation or concern for his own safety, ran to the aid of the driver. Jaylen successfully stopped the individual and singularly removed him from the bus. Jaylen’s prompt and decisive actions directly contributed to the well-being of our valued Rapid Transit System driver and exemplified the highest standards of compassion and heroism. His courage serves as an inspiration to the entire community and is deserving of this special recognition and heartfelt gratitude.”
