Meade County South Dakota
Good Morning Meade County!!
It's here! Hump Day at the Rally!
The folks who came early are starting to head home, and the folks who could not get as much time off from work as they wanted, are rolling into town. Basically, it's Rally "turnover" day — one group is leaving with memories, questionable financial decisions, and maybe a little less hearing than they started with, while another group is just getting warmed up.
Question,
Have you ever been pulled over for speeding, had a perfectly pleasant interaction with the law enforcement officer, handed over your driver's license and insurance, and then watched the officer walk back to the patrol car?
And you wait...
And wait...
And WAIT.
Eventually, you start wondering if someone finally discovered that parking ticket you got in 1992.
Then, after what seems like an hour, the officer comes back, hands you your documents, gives you a warning about your speed and sends you on your way.
So what took so long?
Here's the likely answer:
Your driver's license fell into the black hole that exists between the driver's seat and center console of every patrol car out on the road.
That poor officer has spent the last 20 minutes crawling around the car, moving seats, digging under equipment and questioning every life decision that led to this moment.
And by the time the license is finally recovered, the officer has reached a simple conclusion:
No ticket is worth this.
Documents returned.
Have a nice day.
Drive slower.
Seriously... ask any cop you know. They'll understand.
And now, the Rally numbers from last night:
Calls for Service: 129 (179)
Traffic Stops: 36 (73)
DUI Arrests: 4 (6)
Drug Arrests: 6 (1)
Simple Assaults: 1 (3)
Injury Crashes: 2 (3)
Non-Injury Crashes: 0 (1)
Total Booked into the Jail: 36 (45)
Current Jail Population: 78
And finally, the MCSO received a very special delivery this morning from Black Hills Bagels — bagels and enough cream cheese options to make us question whether there is actually a limit to how many varieties of cream cheese a person needs.
Thank you, Black Hills Bagels!
We started this whole toaster thing as a joke, but we're happy to report that the toasters are now officially being put to work.
Add in an additional delivery of cream cheese from the Western South Dakota E-4 Mafia, and folks...
We are officially living in tall cotton over here at the MCSO.
The Rally may be exhausting, but apparently the MCSO and Sturgis Police are going to be very well fed while doing it.
Too our friends at the South Dakota Highway Patrol, you can hang out in the parking lot at the doughnut shops, but we get bagels delivered to us!!
Johnson Siding Volunteer Fire Department come on down as well!! There's plenty to go around! Apparently you now have plenty of toasters!
Keep it safe out there, Meade County! And if you see a patrol deputy crawling around inside their car...
Be Safe Meade County!!
