Developmental Reading of Saved Messages is a new one-person play exploring mental health, crisis response, and the relationships that keep us here.
Written by Carlita Victoria, Saved Messages is performed by Devin Elise Kessler, directed by Donathan Walters, with dramaturgy by Daphne Sicre.
The piece examines the criminalization of the crisis in Black communities and asks what it means to be cared for when the systems we turn to can also cause harm. Through humor, vulnerability, memory, and voice messages, the play moves through the relationships and moments that can make the difference between feeling alone and choosing to stay another day.
This reading is an important step in the development of the piece as we continue shaping the work for future production. I’d love to have you in the room to experience the reading and connect with the creative team and other members of the theatre community.
