People ask me about my retirement. Well it's just fine except when I broke my jaw I lost down from 215 to 180. It took about 3 1/2
years to get back to 195. But only 5 months to get to 215 Cindy feeds me well. I have plenty of jobs started around to finish up but 2 people that keep from working. Me and myself won't let I finish it. .

In the beginning ,I was almost 23 ; in the end,I am almost 74.
The world has changed, and responsib0kility must have changed too. Every day is a struggle to have staff.
It is understandable that the staff has their lives & activities and families other than Don's Place.
My children are past forty. The grandchildren are past 20 to nearly 12 hrs. I want to be available to enjoy them now.
The guys who all sat at the counter in 1973 are all gone now. They sat at the counter ,shook their heads,and said these dumb kids,""What are they thinking?""They can't make this work". Well we cooking for their great-great grandchildren.
September of 1973,we had 1,3 month old daughter.Now we have 3 daughters and 4 "perfect grand kids. You know how that is.
Without a doubt,we have the world's very best customers ! Protection as well as surrounding towns have supported us through thick and thin;good days and bad.
The clock is ticking. Time to go.
We are beyond grateful to all those who have kept Don's doors open and busy. Generations of devoted workers(Mary Schultz was here at the start!) made it all possible. Generations of customers from near and very far have been faithful,patient and realized we have good days,not so good days and better days.
We have hoped and prayed for a new owner. It hasn't happened. With gratitude and love we say good bye and best wishes to all.
We take many beautiful memories with us.
We will close on June 1 for one month and then rethink it. Unless something changes my mind.
