Hey everyone, I need to make a last-minute post and I hope a lot of people see this before they venture out tomorrow but we will be closed this weekend Saturday and Sunday due to the fact that we are still at Albany med. Since the minute we arrived here we have been telling the doctors in the nurses and other staff that Steve only has one eye and when weāre talking to the nurses and the doctors. We tell them that in the last year and the last couple months alone Steve has had several surgeries on the only eye he has and explained to him his lack of vision, which was starting to get Better well when they took Steve into the OR they never taped his eyes and the first thing that they said to me when I seen him after surgery was that they forgot to tape his eyes and he got an abrasion on his eye and I said what do you mean he got an abrasion on his eye they said heās got a scratch on his corneaš¤¬ I asked him how he got that, and they said that they were not sure because they had forgotten to tape his eyes, but they had put erythromycin ointment in his eyes. I said well why would you put it in his right eye being that his right eye is fake itās a prosthetic eye I said and I told you guys that before you even took him in the ER and all they did was apologize so this morning they were sending ophthalmology up to look at his eye because we were ready to go home and just to let everyone know this has nothing to do with the surgeon, he was great. It has to do with the nursing staff and the anesthesiologist that was in there with him. We discussed this with them and the unit. Dr said that he could not release him until ophthalmology came to look at his eyeļæ¼. The ophthalmologist showed up at 3:30 this afternoon. She examined his eye and she made me call Dr. Keshavaās office and schedule him an appointment ASAP and I told them what it happened and they got him right in for Monday morning thank God, so the ophthalmologist here was bringing us back antibiotic eye drops, and ointment that was at 4 oāclock this afternoon and it is now 7 PM and we still have not seen the medicine and Steveās nerve block started wearing off this afternoon and at around four he started asking for pain medicine for his arm that had very extensive surgery done on it with plate ,pins,screws prosthetics he rang his bell three times and they were sending the nurse in every time until finally at 6:30. I went out to the nurses station and they were all standing around and I told them they all should be ashamed of themselves. there is a lot of bells going off and just because you are not these peopleās nurses does not mean you should not be answering these calls. Something could seriously be wrong with people like my husband. Steve was in such excruciating pain for hours. That has sent his sugar up over 350. Heās a type one diabetic and relies on an insulin pumpļæ¼.At 6:45 pm he finally got some pain meds. So when we asked about when would be going home today or this evening, she informed us that we wouldnāt be going home because now the unit Dr wouldnāt have time to do the paperwork so we could go home.!WTF!!š¤¬ Albany med to me is the worst hospital Iāve ever been in.ļæ¼ obviously there is no staff communication we have had a few nurses that were absolutely sweethearts. Donāt get me wrong. The funny part is our small hospitals where we are that we take for granted are begging for nurses and down here. Theyāre sending Nurses home on units because thereās too many nurses ļæ¼ and theyāre not all needed well go up to either RRMC or the Glens Falls hospital where they are needed then!ļæ¼ I do believe though that when you are a nurse or a doctor, but mainly a nurse because you do most of the work, you should at least be able to speak and understand English because Iām gonna tell you down here a lot of them donāt Steveās nurse tonight barely understands any English, where I have to sit there and try to explain to her about things itās crazy. Iām praying and crossing my fingers. Weāre going home tomorrow at what point in time I have no idea but my patients have definitely been tested here and I have not had any sleep since Tuesday. have a good night everyone !ļæ¼
