Spella Caffe Portland Coffee Rosters proud to represent Italian espresso in the Pacific Northwest Today, his love of coffee is shared by his loyal fans.

Raised above his family’s Chicago bakery, Andrea Spella began drinking espresso when he was old enough to raise a cup to his lips. For quality and consistency, this Portland, Oregon roaster develops deep relationships with coffee growers and roasts the beans himself, always aiming for the “sweet spot.” Somewhere between a light and dark roast, his beans boast a balance of sweet and bitter with a dark chocolate flavor and caramel finish. Coffee is what you put into it. For Spella, it’s heart and soul.

The celebration that keeps on giving!

This Tuesday 10/13 we’ll be commemorating 3 years of our flagship at our home in the historic Selling building! Future home of the James Beard Public Market next year. The warm welcome we’ve received in this space has been extraordinary. From our partners Schlesinger and tenants, and longtime friends and neighbors in the heart of downtown, you have filled our soul to the brim. Thank you for loving traditional Italian espresso and caring for our crew while being the most loving community.

We’ll be celebrating with some lovely surprises throughout the day, and prices on specialty items in the morning as well as tasty treats in the afternoon.

We are so grateful to all of you who continue to support us on this wild journey. We have so much to look forward to this season, and the years ahead.🫶🏼✨

Thank you, Portland, for showing up to celebrate with us on Tuesday.

To our longtime partners, our regulars, our friends, and everyone who traveled through our doors to celebrate — seeing so many familiar faces and so much of our Spella famiglia gathered together meant more than we can say.

Twenty years in the heart of downtown Portland has given us countless memories, friendships, and moments we’ll carry with us for years to come. And judging by the smiles, the throwback prices, mini affogatos, and sorbetto spritz were a pretty big hit, too. 😉

Thank you for believing in us, supporting us, and being part of the Spella story for two decades.

Tomorrow, Spella is celebrating a very special milestone with our friends at Market of Choice — 20 years at their West Linn location! 🇮🇹🤎

For nearly two decades, Market of Choice has been an incredible partner to Spella Caffè, and we’re honored to be part of their 20th Birthday Celebration at the West Linn store.

Come celebrate tomorrow, October 10… Spella will be serving free pour over from 10am–1pm for you to sip while you shop, celebrate, and enjoy all the festivities — local makers, tastings, birthday cake, giveaways, and more!

20 years of Spella. ✨☕️🇮🇹

For two decades, it has been an absolute honor for Andrea Spella and our crew to serve this city the finest Italian hand-pulled espresso.

What began as a little coffee cart on Alder Street has grown and transformed over the years, while always remaining rooted in the same things: care, craft, hospitality, and connection.

Countless hands and hearts have shaped Spella over these 20 years. Our crew has carried this legacy through learning, teaching, dialing in and pulling endless shots, solving problems, serving, and simply showing up — day after day — to keep this flame alive.

To our wholesale partners throughout the city, thank you for believing in our coffee and bringing Spella into your own spaces. To our regulars and visitors at the caffè, our friends ordering from around the country, and everyone who has joined us at this table and shared the love with others — grazie!!

Thank you to the Schlesinger and the wonderful tenants of the Selling Building for giving our flagship caffè a home. And thank you to our downtown community — residents, workers, neighbors, travelers, artists, small businesses, and fellow dreamers — who continue to make this city worth showing up for.

You have loved our espresso, believed in our city, carried us through hard times, and kept us hopeful about the future. You’ve allowed a crew of coffee nerds to share our creative passion while making a living doing what we love.

Twenty years is a long time.
And when we look back at all the cups, faces, friendships, places, and memories along the way, we can’t help but feel incredibly grateful. 🫶🏼

And somehow, after all these years, it still feels like we’re just getting started and the very best is still to come. We’ll just keep aging like fine amaro!

20 years ago on 10/6/2006 Andrea first opened the original coffee cart — what many of our regulars refer to as “the cart days.” DS (Communications & Operations) was one of his earliest customers and she’s been an espresso groupie all these years at every location. Their friendship continued through 13 years at the “5th Street Flagship.” And now look at us, Andrea! Little did we know that 20 years later we’d family and sidekicks watching all the iterations of this little local gem grow into a legendary espresso institution and family legacy. Every crew member has a special Spella story we look forward to sharing with you during our anniversary month!

☕️ Happy National Coffee Day.

For us, coffee has never just been coffee.

It’s the smell of a fresh roast in the morning. The ritual of dialing in a shot. The first sip at the bar. A caffè shared with a friend, a quick conversation with a familiar face, or a quiet moment all to yourself.

It’s the farmers, producers, roasters, baristas, cooks, makers, and customers who make a caffè a community.

After 20 years of Spella, we’re still deeply in love with the simple, beautiful ritual of serving great coffee — and even more grateful for everyone who has pulled up a chair, stood at our bar, visited one of our carts, shared a drink, or made Spella part of their day.

☕️✨ Today calls for a cup of ambition.

Today, September 25, 2026, Portland is officially celebrating Dolly Parton Day — honoring a legendary icon whose legacy reaches far beyond music, into kindness, generosity, and children’s literacy. 💕📚

And what better way to celebrate than with a little Dolly wisdom:

“Tumble out of bed and stumble to the kitchen, pour myself a cup of ambition.”

So we’re raising a cappuccino to Dolly — and to big hair, rhinestones, simple wisdom, dancing, singing, and a whole lot of joy. 🦋✨

Today’s free community celebration brings Portland together with a singalong and performances from Cooper Hays and her band Cooper and Her Daddy Issues, plus special appearances by Poison Waters, Storm Large, and members of Pink Martini.

Because sometimes a cup of coffee is more than coffee.

It’s a little ambition.
A little courage.
A little kindness.

Some people in coffee become more than colleagues or fellow coffee people. They become family. ☕️🫶🏼✨

For us at Spella, JJ at JVEINCAFFE is one of those people.

JJ was part of the Spella family years ago, working behind the bar and as a roaster, and we’re so grateful that our friendship has continued all these years. Today, he’s serving exquisite espresso from his vintage Spartan trailer at Rose City Food Park — and doing it in a way that is unmistakably JJ.

Beautifully crafted drinks on a Rancilio. Thoughtful, intentional showmanship. And, perhaps most importantly, genuine hospitality and meaningful conversation with every person who comes to his spartan espresso bar.

JJ has a gift for making people feel seen. Every drink is carefully crafted soul-soothing gift. Every interaction matters to him. And you can feel the love he has for coffee and for the people who gather around it.

We could never say enough good things about him, his craft, or the friendship we’ve shared together over the years.

🍯 GOOD COFFEE GROWS FROM GOOD PARTNERSHIPS. 🐝

One of the things we love most about being part of the Oregon food community is getting to work alongside people who care deeply about what they do — and our friends at Bee Way Honey Pollination are exactly that kind of partner.

Family-owned and operated in Damascus since 1993, Bee Way’s story began with founder Leonid Zaytsev, who first discovered beekeeping while growing food in his backyard in Ukraine. What began as a way to improve pollination in his garden grew into a lifelong vocation — and eventually into the family business that helps pollinate farms throughout the Pacific Northwest and produces beautiful raw, natural honey from Oregon and Washington. 🐝🌲

We’re grateful to bring a little of that work into the caffè.

Their honey is a beloved ingredient in our house-made chai, Hot Honey Lattes, and our Caffè con Miel — where honey and espresso come together in one of our favorite simple combinations.

For us, this is what partnership is about: knowing the people behind the ingredients, supporting the work happening in our own region, and creating something together that our community gets to enjoy.

So the next time you stir a little honey into your coffee, take a moment to think about the thousands of tiny workers — and the people who care for them — that helped make it possible. 🍯
