Spending a small my afternoon in Slabtown with the fam, after getting my haircut close by, we went to grab dinner at a place I had passed a hundred tomes and I had never venture into only to be surprised that the one and only RUSE BREWING had a PIZZA JOINT!!! Crust Collective I've had many a delicious Ruse Brewing pint before but I knew it must be an excellent pie to to deserve the Ruse branding!!! And I was not let down!!! Amazing Detroit style@pizza , a great Caesar salad on the side and of course a pint (or three) to go with it!!! My kids housed it their slices in a blink!!!! Love you Ruse!!! As a follow up to yesterday's post celebrating Du's Grill's loyal customers, BRANDON rolled through whom I've seen at least a couple of times in my recent stretch of work!!! He's able to come by because he works nearby at Tabor Volvo Service but prior to working there, he lived in the neighborhood and has been coking for about THIRTY YEARS 😳😳😳😳😳😳 I'm gonna quote the man himself here and end with "WHEN YOU FIND SOMETHING GOOD, YOU STICK WITH IT" 👍👍👍👍👍👍🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌 Voltaire got nothing on you Brandon!!!!

After having been out of town for a good chunk of the summer, I've been putting in some extra hours at the store the last couple of weeks. And I gotta say... IT IS AMAZING HOW MANY OF THE LONG YOME DU'S GRILL LOYALISTS STILL COME ON A REGULAR BASIS. I've been working here for about seventeen years now. And I don't visit any establishment regularly anymore that I did back then. Even Safeway or McDonald's. And I know some regulars have been visiting Du's Grill before I even worked here and it was just my folks. So, as I've said many times before, from the bottom of my heart. THANK YOU. There are many people in my life who inspire me but Du's Grill customers have a special place in my heart always!!!

Not the first time I posted about my man BIG JOHN John Lukrofka . He makes it a point to come see me when he knows I'm at the store. And also when I'm not. But yesterday's visit perfectly encapsulates why it feels like we've been friends since back in the day. He rolled into the parking lot bumping "THE WORLD IS YOURS" (a song I know by heart) then proceeds to stroll in and introduce me to the head of the Blazers' broadcasting staff and his assistant (whaddap Bruce and Christian)... then while I'm putting together his roster, we chat about family, food and LIFE!!! Big John (or "THE AMBASSADOR" as I call him) is as loyal as they come!!! At this point, it feels like we meet to catch up personally first and the e teriyaki is secondary!!! You all need a BIG JOHN in your life!!! If this one is not readily available to you, you go find you one!!!!!

I'm telling you... comics and teriyaki go together like 80's rappers and James Brown breaks... we go together like Michael B. Mike Loughlin AND CREW STOP BY EVERY THURSDAY FOR TERIYAKI AND COMICS. There's gotta be catchy name in there somewhere. But I have name for this crew. COOLEST CREW ON PLANET EARTH!!!! They always post a group pic when they come through but today we got to take one in person!!! Admittedly, this photo took me six tries. Hey I'm a teriyaki restaurant owner, not a photographer. Actually, I did have aspirations to be a photographer almost two decades ago and studied it in college and almost moved to NY to pursuit and when I didn't , my professor was very disappointed. Yesterday was dedicated to familiar faces... today is a tribute to NEW FACES!!! Or at least ones I've never met on a personal basis. Today a guy and his son came in with a stack of books, presumably from COSMIC MONKEY next door (whaddap ANDY!!!) The book on top was TRANSFORMERS THE MOVIE. ONE OF MY CHILDHOOD CORE MEMORY MOVIES AS MANY MY AGE. I immediately mentioned it and BRIAN said he just interviewed the writer of it!!! I immediately went 😦😦😦😦😦 I asked him where is Gamora?? Who is Gamora??? Why is Gamora???? He said he has a podcast called MARVEL OF THE MONTH (which I tired to look up to tag but can't find it! Brian if you see this tag me!!!) As an aspiring screenwriter I had so many questions!! Was it his choice to kill Optimus halfway into the movie??? Did you have Orson Wells i mind when you were writing Unicron??? Do you see Michael Bay as an inspiration or abomination????? But instead I said thanks for coming to eat teriyaki, I'll look up your podcast!!!! Hey I'm working a bit more often these days so come stop by and let's share stories!!! No lie, the best part about putting some hours in the store again is running into customers I haven't seen in years. Today I ran into ROBERT who doesn't even live in Portland anymore but was on a work trip for a job he recently started!! We are also friends on FB so I've seen him living life from afar as he has mine. But it was really great to talk about our kids, bust each others chops about slacking on the job and get some amazing dad advice in the end!!! It even got a bit melancholic as I had to share with him about my dad passing recently because Rob knew him from his two decades of being Du's customer... and he also sympathized as he lost his dad in the last few years. I love seeing you all whether it's often or the first time in a long time and I get to see YOU next!!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

Didn't get a chance to say farewell to Lloyd Center because I'm working 😢😢😢 in some cosmic coincidence TREVOR stopped by for a pick up order who I got to know personally when our kids were in the same ice skating class there a year ago!!! Man Trev I forgot to take a pic with you! But it's like the Lloyd Center was an INTUITIVE BEING and it's sad to say bye from afar. You were an integral part of this neighborhood. I distinctly remember the last time I went shopping there: I bought a bunch of my "comfort clothes" of choice (oversized Jordan sweat shorts) just as I had my first kid. Sorry I didn't come shopping more often!
