dated on 4/26/16 and is subject to change. Blends:

BRITE & EARLY: Our light blend, designed to be both chocolatey and fruity. Currently we use Ethiopian and Guatemalan beans for a cup that begins with a touch of milk chocolate and finishes with the sweet taste of fresh strawberries. HIGH MOUNTAIN BLEND: A medium-dark blend of Brazilian, Rwandan, and Ethiopian beans with heavy body and notes of citrus & molasses. High Mountain Blend is smooth, rich, and invigorating, a great way to start the morning. HARRAR DARK: Our darkest coffee, blending beans from Ethiopia and Brazil and roasted for a perfect balance of bold, smoky, and sweet. Single Origin Coffees:

BRAZIL CERRADO: A bold dark roast with warm nutty undertones. It’s still in development so let us know what you think. Look for notes of raspberry, peach, tangerine, and cherry. EL SALVADOR SANTA MARIA (RFA-certified): A medium-dark roast with heavy notes of dark chocolate & salted caramel and a dried cherry finish. ETHIOPIA SIDAMO SHOYE: Dark chocolate notes are further sweetened with hints of strawberry, raspberry, and lemon in this medium roast. ETHIOPIA YIRGACHEFFE: The Yirgacheffe has a sunny, floral personality, evoking juicy fruits like strawberry, peach, and grapefruit, and finishing clean with a hint of black tea. HONDURAS LA PAZ: A bold & bright medium roast, with notes of cherry and strawberry. JAVA TAMAN-DADAR (Organic & RFA-certified): A work in progress. Look for earthy and chocolaty notes as well as dark, bold blueberry notes. PAPUA NEW GUINEA NEBILYER VALLEY: Roasted medium-dark to accentuate its smoky to***co and sweet caramel notes. PERU NORANDINO (Organic Certified): A rich medium roast coffee, with notes of almond and vanilla. Decaf Coffees:

SUMATRA MEDIUM ROAST DECAF (Water processed): The full earthy experience Sumatran coffee is famous for, finishing on sweet brown sugar notes. SUMATRA DARK ROAST DECAF (Water processed): Bold in flavor: smoky, toasty, and with a hint of sweetness.

The Zimbabwe Smaldeel Estate has been around for over 100 years and has been growing coffee since 1959. "Smaldeel" is a Dutch word meaning "the narrow portion"--perhaps a reference to the small but ideal piece of land this estate sits on, its cool climate and high altitude making it perfect for coffee production.

Our Zimbabwe Smaldeel is officially en route to Germany, but we made sure to keep a few bags back here in Michigan. Try some today: a light roast with tangy acidity and tea-like body, and flavor notes of mango, strawberry, kiwi, and lime zest.

And now, a visual of our Java Taman-Dadar and its many flavor notes. Like many Indonesian coffees, it’s a little earthy (hence the gummy worms), but also has rich dark chocolate notes and blueberry fruitiness.

(By the way, I put this mix of crumbled cookies and blueberries on top of some ice cream. It was delicious! Likewise, the Java Taman-Dadar goes very well with cream and sugar.)

Coffee production in Java moved from the lowlands to the highlands beginning in the late 19th century. This is because the coffee trees in the lowlands were more susceptible to diseases such as coffee rust, and because higher altitudes, combined with the local volcanic soil, yield higher quality coffee. The farmers of Taman Dadar have been practicing organic farming techniques for many generations, but have just recently been certified Organic.

Our Java comes from the Ijen Plateau on the east side of the island, a region that includes villages like Curah Tatal and Kayumas. The smallholder farmers in this region gave it the name Taman Dadar, which means “flower garden”.

Perhaps one of the most famous coffee places in the world is the island of Java in Indonesia. This is because in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, Java beans were often shipped to the port of Mokka in Yemen, blended with Mokka’s locally grown coffee, and marketed as “Mocha-Java”--a name that has stuck around to this day!

Check back throughout the week to learn more about the Javanese coffee we are currently offering!
