Thank you Bud Kennedy for the nice article.

It’s been in movies and TV shows, and it was a favorite of late author Larry McMurtry.

Ranchman’s closed the sale today. The new owner wants to keep it going with lots more to come. We are excited for Ranchman’s future and the benefit it will bring to the Ponder community.
Eric Scortia and Steve Goff were the realtors who found the buyer I was looking for.

These walls can talk!
Stories go back 120 years in the building with Ranchman's occupying it for 75 years. The restaurant closed October 30, 2023 after a long run. We hope to find a buyer to keep the stories going.
Marie, Foster, Francisca and me (Dave) were the heart of the business. Our dedication and loyalty made it a special place where memories were made for people from all over. Our guest books are a window to the world with visitors from too many countries to list here. Japan, Germany, all of Europe, Mexico, Australia, Siberia, Norway, Finland, Africa are a few that come to mind.
I want your stories!
My stories go back to 1971 with some of the original owner's relatives having related their stories of the first chapter of Ranchman's going back to when it first opened with Grace (Pete) Jackson and her husband Jack. My treasure trove of stories include : ghost stories, Bonnie and Clyde stories, famous visitors and colorful customers to name a few. Answering the phone in my office with the bad news that Ranchman's is closed usually initiates the caller to relate memories they hold special.
Post your memories here, email to [email protected] or mail them to: Ranchman's, PO Box 117, Ponder, TX 76259

Ranchman's dedication to great food and service kept our great customers coming to a place that felt like a home away from home.
A book about Ranchman's Ponder Steakhouse would not be complete without stories we don't know about. "Your" stories! Please share them.
