I have hated having a mid-December birthday my entire life. Everyone is always too busy to get together, people are burnt out from Christmas prep, and it's always snowy and cold.

But a few years ago, I decided to change that. I started taking matters into my own hands, and having the day I wanted. At first, it was just dinner or even a trip with my husband, because in my mind, my friends were too busy and wouldn't want to get together.

2 years ago, I decided to stop worrying and just do it. I invited all of my friends, just like we did as kids, to a "favorite things" party at my house. But instead of them bringing me a gift, I put together a collection of my favorite things to give to them, as a thank you for being a part of my life. It was the best feeling ever.

This year, along with the help of some of my favorite small/local businesses, I put together goodie bags again. And I was able to put together an extra bag to do a giveaway for one of you! But here's how I want it to work-

I want this to be a selfless giveaway. Tag one of your friends, and tell me why they're such a great friend to you. I'll pick one to deliver the bag to! Tag away!!🩷

(Unfortunately this is limited to Utah, and because I'll have to drive to deliver it, has to be no further south than Provo and no further north than South Jordan. If you live in this area, I can also deliver it to you for you to take to them!)🫶

Day 3 of helping you be more prepared for Thanksgiving (and having a better meal because of it!)

Today's tip: finalize your menu and make a grocery list!

Don't wait until the day or two before Thanksgiving to do this. Trust me!! Get your groceries before things go out of stock, and start prepping some dishes ahead to alleviate stress on the big day. You want it to be a fun, cozy day with family and friends, not a frantic, chaotic day!

I've got some solid recipes on my blog (some that I usually only share in classes!), so make sure to head on over and add a few to your list!

Comment "recipe" and I'll send you a link to my recipes page for you to pick your favs!

And I genuinely want to know what everyone is making, so go to my stories and tell me for a chance to win a little treat on me to fuel your shopping🥤

I've been thinking a lot lately about LK Cooking and how I got here. May marks 6 years of quitting my stable, "respectable" job to pursue something crazy.

It started as a weekly meal prep service. I'd go to people's homes and cook a few days worth of meals for them. It was pretty thankless, because I never got to experience them enjoying my food. I just barely discontinued this service about a month ago, after tapering off my last few clients.

Now, it's mainly corporate event caterings, traveling with families and businesses to cook during their trips, and classes! Group classes, private classes, hands on classes, and demonstration style classes. 🙌

Now, I get to be in the kitchen with YOU, experiencing food and the joy that it brings right alongside you. Whether I created the food for you, or I helped you create it for yourself, that is my absolute favorite part of my job! 💓

Food is more than simply fuel that keeps our bodies moving. It teaches us to create, to experiment. We use food to bring people together, through family dinners and late night treat runs with friends. It heals us, whether from the actual nutrients in the food or the comfort it can bring.

At the end of the day, all I want is to help you find the same joy that food brings me. As said the other day- food is therapy. I'll keep sharing my food therapy as long as I'm alive☺️❤️

This freshened up version of chicken pad thai is made on a regular basis around here, and it's about time you learned why!

It has all the key flavors from your favorite takeout pad thai- marinated chicken, delicious sauce, crispy bean sprouts, chewy rice noodles...but none of the complicated steps or unique kitchen tools needed!

It comes together SO quick (this one is genuinely on your table in less than 30 minutes, including marinating and chopping time!), so what are you waiting for??

P.S. isn't this shot from INCREDIBLE?! This dish was hard to shoot in the past (you should've seen the previous picture on my website...😅) But Sheena absolutely nailed the colors and the lighting here!💯

I've searched for a good white bean chicken chili for years, and I just haven't found it. So, I created my own! This green chile chicken chili will rock your world. Go to Studio 5's website (they're better at food blogging than I am, ha!), for the recipe!

Speaking of food blogging- I'm working with my web developers ( is the best!), along with food photographers to work on updating my blog this year! I have so many recipes in my archives that I want to share with you guys. I promise we're working on it!😘

How's January treating everyone so far? Does it feel like you're on day 47, or has it been alright for you?👍👎

January is usually one of the hardest months of the year for me. If you know me, you know I hate the snow/cold, plain and simple. So that, coupled with the days getting dark at 5 pm, can really get to me.

Last fall I decided I didn't want it to be like that anymore. I chose to take some steps to prepare myself to not feel so sad and low for what feels like years during the winter months. Here's what I did, and have been doing:

1-I started taking whole food supplements, from naturally derived sources, so that my body knew how to process them. This has helped to regulate some imbalances in my body, so that it isn't working against itself. I'll tag the shop I go to in my stories.

2-I started going to therapy again. I went for a while in 2020 (like practically everyone else) and stopped because I felt better. This time, I started because I wanted to strengthen my mental health before the literal and figurative storms of winter came my way. I'll go into details on this in my stories sometime. There's a lot to talk about there, and I'll share when I feel ready. ❤

3-I've tried to find things that bring my mind joy. Not things that other people have told me will make me happy in the winter (Learn to ski! Play in the snow!), but things that make MY brain happy. Listen to yourself, and do the thing(s) that light your fire. 🔥

4-Doing yoga every day has really helped me as well. I know everybody says it, bit find some way, even a small one, to move your body. I don't like leaving my house at night in the cold to go to the gym. But a cozy, soft moving practice where I can calm my mind? That's my vibe. Find what speaks to you.

5-Eating well. I would bring food into this, wouldn't I?😉 My intention for this new year (and new decade of my life-30!) Is to nourish my own body like I do for others. I'm not here to tell you to eat 12 cups of veggies a day. Figure out what works best for you. Maybe start with just one vegetable a day. Find a more natural source of caffeine. (You'll never hear me telling you to not eat treats. Never.)

Whoa, that got wordy quick😅 all this to say- find a baby step to help you feel happy and more yourself. Then sit there for a while to adjust, find your bearings, and take another baby step. Reach out if you need help getting started. I truly mean it when I say I'm here for you. Dm me. If you're local, let's go get a cupcake sometime. We can get through this time together ❤
