You can’t think of Plainville Track & Field without saying Coach Norma Finnesy’s name.
Norma Finnesy
Plainville High School (2A)
36 years on Staff (1989-present)
Head Coach 2004 -2024
Three State Championships boys teams (2012, 2013, 2017), One Third Place Finish boys team (2011). 27 of the 36 school records have been broke in her tenure. She has produced multiple state champions and has sent many student/athletes to compete at the Collegiate level. Coach Finnesy has assumed a new role at PHS stepping into an Asst Coach position this season focusing on middle and long distance. Allowing her successor Coach Alex McMillian to take over duties as Head Coach. “The community of Plainville has been so blessed for almost four decades of Coach Finnesy mentoring our youth. She is such a great motivator and will always find a way to get the best out of each person who gives her the opportunity. For me personally she is one of the most influential coaches I have ever been around. She is the reason I coach the way I do and I thank her for giving me the tools to follow in her footsteps. PHS track has built such a strong foundation thanks to Coach Finnesy and Coach Steve Buresh. I’m so excited to continue with both of these Coaches and add Coach Alex McMillian who brings a fresh set of ideas to make our program even stronger.” Former Plainville multiple sport state champion and KSU thrower TJ Stabb told Chet Kuplen of Sports in Kansas. Stabb is the highly successful throws coach at PHS and was an athlete under Finnesy while also coaching many years with her.
Thanks coach for elevating track and field in our state while impacting so many young people in a great way!
