Color us impressed! The team at Mars Pizza and La Famiglia Gourmet Pizza Company don't shy away from hard work, and the seemingly impossible tasks that I ask them to do, even if they don't think that it can be done.
Case in point: a cast iron save, well over 100 years old and easily over 400 pounds or more discovered in a corner of the basement at Mars Pizza, left behind because it was either forgotten by a prior owner several generations ago, or because it was too heavy to carry up the basement stairs. I rallied the team and asked them to give it a go. Paul Porreca, Julie Paul's sons James and Joey, and Nathan Germeyer all pitched in to make this happen. With James and Joey handling the straps and doing the heavy lifting and pulling, Nathan underneath pushing and guiding the safe, and Paul handling the dowels and rails, they pulled this off, and surprised themselves! I am so, so proud of their effort, dedication, support, and honestly, their fearlessness in moving a safe that easily could have crushed any one of them if it had fallen.
The results of their efforts are on display until Mars Applefest this weekend.
