Pirate crews wrote their rules down. They voted on a captain, agreed on everybody's share, and signed the articles before the ship left port.

We wrote ours down too. They hang in the bathroom.

If you lift it up, put it down. If it runs out, replace it. If you miss, clean it up. The rest of the articles are in the photos, including the one for the gents.

Here is the serious part. You can tell how a place is run by its bathroom. Ours is clean, it is cool, and somebody thought about every wall of it, right down to the hand towel. That is the same attention you get at the bar.

Come in and read the articles for yourself.

A lot of couples who come in here are one smoker and one person who came along. The one who came along usually does fine.

A real espresso bar. A cortado made properly. This month, a mocha pumpkin thing with a foam cap that lasts about as long as a cigar does. A good chair, and nobody pushing a cigar on them. And if they decide they want one after all, the humidor is right there.

Bring the person who says cigar lounges are not their thing. Let the coffee make the argument.

We are closed today. So here is something people ask us about quietly, like it is embarrassing: they never learned dominoes.

It is not embarrassing. It is simpler than it looks, and the fastest way to learn is at a table where somebody already knows. Ours has a set out every day we are open.

Come in, sit down at the table, and say you are new. Somebody will show you. Fair warning, they will enjoy it a little too much.

Back tomorrow at 11.

The Tabernacle opens on cocoa from its Broadleaf wrapper. The Krack is built on dark chocolate. That is not a contrast pairing, it is the same note twice, and the coffee pulls the chocolate forward in the cigar.

Then the pumpkin spice runs into the San Andres earth and the Nicaraguan pepper underneath, which is where it starts to taste like October. The foam is what keeps you in the chair for the last third.

The cigar is the timer. The coffee is the reason to stay.

Ask at the bar for the pair. It rings up as one.

Think cigar lounges are not your thing? Take a look around.

It is not a smoke box and it is not packed. There is space between the chairs, a humidor to pick from, and a crew that will help you find a cigar you like.

And the coffee is fresh. Open till 11 tonight.

Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, so we are celebrating all weekend.

Friday the 30th is All Hallows' Eve. Saturday the 31st is Halloween. Sunday, November 1 is Dia de los Mu***os. Three days, and we want to see you in costume for every one of them.

Snacks and Halloween candy on the bar. Halloween music videos on the screens.

Come dressed up, come after trick-or-treating, come Sunday when it is quiet. It is Halloween every day in here. We get to wear costumes, and to us it feels normal.

This room is Hispanic-owned and woman-owned. Both are true, and we have never actually put it in writing. So here it is, with nine days left in Hispanic Heritage Month.

Look at the coffee menu. Cafe cubano. Cafe con leche. A double cafecito. A cortado. Those are not on there to look the part. They are on there because a short, strong, sweet coffee belongs next to a cigar, and Tampa's cigar rooms knew that a hundred years before anybody put pumpkin in a latte.

Come have a cafecito this week. Stay for the cigar.

A day at the park should end with a cigar.

If you are in town for the game, we are about ten miles from the ballpark and open till 11. If you are catching it here instead, the game is on our screens, and the fights take the late slot like every Saturday.

Park out front, or out back by the loading dock. Walk in through the Alley.

Cigar of the Month was supposed to be a once-a-year Halloween release. It did not make port. Neither did our second choice. Somewhere out there two boxes are sailing under a different flag.

So the Tabernacle took the watch. Foundation's Broadleaf Robusto: Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, Mexican San Andres binder, Nicaraguan and Honduran filler. Five by fifty, full.

Dark cocoa and espresso off the wrapper, earth and a dry sweetness underneath, black pepper through the middle, and a finish that earns the hour.

One box in the humidor, priced like we are sorry about the pirates. Ask the crew. When it is gone, it is gone - unless the first two turn up.
