I typically don’t address things like this. I learned very early on in our small business journey (for my own good 😅) that sometimes it’s better to let people talk, continue doing the best you can, and make things right when there’s actually something within your control to make right.
BUT… this in fact did strike a nerve. I’ve seen the same comment floating around a few times, always from an “anonymous” account, claiming that we use products from Walmart.
And guys… I have to come clean.
WE DO. 🤣
Scandalous, I know.
So, since apparently this is breaking news, I figured I’d give a little insight into the reality of running our small business.
Since opening The Sip, we’ve watched the cost of nearly EVERYTHING we use continue to climb—coffee, syrups, sauces, dairy, cups, lids… you name it. Some of our costs have increased by more than 50%.
Instead of immediately passing every increase along to our customers, we work really hard to find alternatives that still give us the quality and consistency we want while allowing us to keep our prices as reasonable as possible.
Did you know Great Value heavy cream has a higher fat content providing that thick creamy cold foam you all love better than some of the name brand products?
We’re also a SMALL business with a SMALL space. We simply don’t have the storage, or sometimes the need, to meet the large case minimums required by some major distributors. So yes, we particularly like Sam’s, but sometimes that means we use Walmart, Claiborne, and even Rouses and buy what we need. And we’re not embarrassed by that in the slightest.
So yes… there may, in fact, be off brand milk in your latte. 🥴🤣
We just weren’t aware that the cows producing it knew whether their milk was headed to a local store or a restaurant distributor. Apparently we missed that memo. 🐄
At the end of the day, we’re proud of the drinks we serve, proud of the ingredients we choose, and REALLY proud that we’ve continued finding ways to make things work without constantly increasing prices on the people who support us.
And if buying from another business in our community, and supporting LOCAL delivery drivers, while keeping our own business running is supposed to be embarrassing… we’ll take that one on the chin. 🤷🏼♀️
You guys have got to start giving these small businesses a break. I see it ALL over Picayune. It’s disheartening, and respectfully if you aren’t running one in these hard times, then keep your opinions to yourself. Unless, in fact, there is an issue we could or need to fix we absolutely will go above and beyond to do so!
Sincerely,
The Sip Girls 🤎☕️
