Facts! โœ… is good for you - mind, body + soul!

๐Ÿง˜ MIND: Spending even a few minutes in the garden has been shown to reduce stress hormones, ease anxiety, and boost overall mood.

๐Ÿ’ช BODY: Digging, planting a weeding are a dynamic exercise that can burn a few hundred calories per hour. Time in the sun and fresh air can also boost vitamin D, improve sleep, and reduce the risk of chronic conditions like high blood pressure and metabolic dysfunction.

๐Ÿ’• SOUL: Being in nature and watching something you care for grow increases life satisfaction and gives you a sense of purpose. Gardening also builds community and connection, with community gardens providing the strongest sense of emotional well being and belonging.

Gritty is that girl: , local, made exclusively from the remnants of recycling processes. ๐Ÿ’… The perfect blend of our compost, biochar, and glass sand from .

Sand is the second most in demand resource globally, second only to water. We have plenty of sand here in , but itโ€™s trapped in glass form. Bottle Underground breaks this glass back down into sand. It is touch safe and ok to have around kids and pets, because itโ€™s not glass anymore - itโ€™s sand.

Designed for plants with grit, like cacti and succulents. Use indoors or out, fill the whole container or use as a shimmery topper on planters and landscaping elements - the options are endless. However you use it, Gritty will be a conversation starter that elevates how you grow.

Remove your produce stickers before you put things in your ๐Ÿ™ Now, before you comment โ€œthose are edible,โ€ keep reading:

Theyโ€™re not edible, and they donโ€™t make good compost. Why arenโ€™t these compostable by default yet? Who knows. For now:

The best way to keep them out of the compost is to remove them when you get home. Itโ€™s 10 minutes of work that will save you frustration and keep money in your wallet. When you get home:

๐ŸŽ Take produce stickers off your fruit + veg.

โšก๏ธ Go stick those stickers somewhere cool, like on the top of your bucket, on a collage, whatever strikes your fancy.

๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ Throwing them in the trash is also acceptable.

๐Ÿ’ฆ Rinse your produce thoroughly.

๐Ÿซง Produce soap is a good option; a baking soda water mix also removes pesticides (1 teaspoon of baking soda per 2 cups of cold water).

๐Ÿงป Dry your produce thoroughly, and store correctly: apple and pears on the counter in a basket, strawberries in glass jars in the fridge, bananas always by themselves, etc.

By washing your produce when you get home, you remove the fungus and bacteria on the surface of your produce that makes it turn bad, faster, which will save you wasted money on rotten food.

โšก๏ธ Only at Bennett Compost โšก๏ธ de/composition: Native Trees, Sonic Roots invites you into an immersive evening shaped by the Tookany Tacony Frankford Watershed, and presented by Olney Culture Lab.

Sound artist June Lopez builds a live set from field recordings gathered in Tacony Creek Park, blending experimental ambient music with the textures of trees, water, and processes.

Visual artists Samara Talkin and Neil Cippon transform the space with layered projections drawn from the same landscape, while Dr. Jame McCray guides the experience with ecological storytelling. Voices from local residents are woven throughout, grounding the work in lived connection to place.

This is a site-specific performance at our spot on Rising Sun Ave., directly adjacent to the watershed that inspired it.

No alleyway too small, and no volume too large: ๐ŸŽฏ Get a quote for your business ๐Ÿ‘‰

There are so many reasons to start composting, but for businesses weโ€™ve narrowed it down to these top five:

1๏ธโƒฃ Itโ€™s good for your reputation and client experience: when you start composting, you send a clear message about your values and respect for our neighborhoods - and the planet! Have a block that doesnโ€™t smell like putrid dumpsters is also a plus, especially if you have outdoor seating or open windows.

2๏ธโƒฃ Less overage fees from your haulers: food waste is voluminous AND heavy - and can often fluctuate in volume way more than anything else in your waste stream. When you start composting, your dumpsters will fill more predictably, reducing overage fees.

3๏ธโƒฃ Less rats: self-explanatory.

4๏ธโƒฃ Youโ€™re keeping your money local when you compost with us - and thatโ€™s something that actually matters to Philadelphians.

5๏ธโƒฃ Good karma - and excellent compost: perfect for outdoor planters and living decor.

Still not convinced? The numbers speak for themselves: we pick up from over 150 Philadelphia businesses every week. Give us a call ๐Ÿ“ž and learn why!

Last fall, we received a grant from Closed Loop Partners and to increase our capacity to accept compostable, single use items.

Letโ€™s face it: single use items arenโ€™t going anywhere. Weโ€™re busy, weโ€™re on the go, and convenience isnโ€™t a crime. BUT - thereโ€™s a version of convenience that doesnโ€™t cost the planet, and thatโ€™s where compostable options come in:

When itโ€™s certified compostable and processed correctly, these items break down into a nutrient rich soil amendment instead of sitting in a landfill for centuries.

This grant is helping us build the infrastructure to actually close that loop - so when you grab a compostable produce bag or toss a paper plate in your , it has somewhere real to go.

We collect it, process it, and turn it back into the rich compost that feeds local soil. Itโ€™s not *actually* magic, but it kind of feels like it.

Learn more about the work weโ€™re doing to close the loop in ! ๐Ÿ‘‰
