Exactly 125 years ago today -- on August 29, 1901 -- William "Pa" McGillin died.

Pa prided himself on the quality of the brew and neatness of his beer cellar. He had a steam heating apparatus installed and followed the engineers around, sweeping & dusting. That fastidiousness proved to be his undoing. The exertion of tidying up proved too much and he died.

His funeral was held at his home, on the top floor of the bar. According to his obituary in the Philadelphia Inquirer, the funeral had the largest attendance held in the area for many years, “as he was extremely popular throughout the city.”

Happy 45th Anniversary to Lori & Allen, who met at McGillin's in 1979, married in 1981, threw a 40th anniversary at McGillin's in 2021 and, over the years, have visited frequently with their daughters. There's mating magic at McGillin's!

Steve & "Gryz" met at McGillin's 50 years ago tomorrow -- on August 24, 1976. That's 50 years, 4 kids, 7 grandkids, 6 golden retrievers and 1 pandemic rescue puppy ago. And many return visit to the bar that sparked their romance and lifetime together.

Two nurses stopped at McGillin's after a Phillies game. Steve started chatting with them. Three days later, he took one of those nurses on a 1st date. More dates followed, including many stops at McGillin's and they got married in 1980 at the Schuylkill Valley Nature Center.

More couples have met at McGillin's than anywhere else in Philadelphia. ❤
