Good friend of LPB!

Barbara King, ladies and gentlemen! The Queen of Allman’s BBQ, part-time bookkeeper for Kings Famous BBQ—but most of all, the greatest mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother anyone could ask for.

This woman ran an entire operation, raised five kids and grandkids, and handled all the tough decisions along the way. She still visits me twice a week at the restaurant and always makes sure I have everything I need. She even tries to lend a hand running the place… as much as I’d love that, I think she deserves to enjoy her retirement 🤣

Today our family had the opportunity to say thank you to a place that meant a lot to our dad.

Keystone Grill was Alton’s favorite breakfast spot. Whenever his kids and grandkids came to town, that’s where he wanted to go. It wasn’t just about the food—it was about sitting around the table together.

The waitresses there even called him “Grandad,” just like our family did.

This week our family presented the Keystone Grill team with a print of “Rawlings Little Pig Barbeque” by Tony Craig as a small token of appreciation for the way they always took such good care of our Dad, Grandad, and Great Grandad.

Picked up a beautiful original painting of Rawlings Little Pig Bar-B-Q today, painted by Tony Craig Art Gallery at his gallery in Farmville, NC. His gallery is full of artwork and antiques, but this one immediately brought back a flood of memories.

Tony is a delight to talk to! He has been a cartoonist on many famous shows as he has worked at Disney as well as other famous studios.

We spent time sharing stories about the restaurant, our family, and all the people who made Little Pig such a special place. By the end, we all agreed Dad would have absolutely loved being there for that moment.

Grateful for the memories, the legacy, and everyone who still remembers Little Pig with the same fondness we do. ❤️🐷

For nearly 80 years, King's Barbecue was considered a Petersburg institution, known not just for its food but as a place to meet friends and talk business.
