The next favorite Full Suite with the most votes is… the D.J. Pattee Suite! And this one is an especially important one for Hotel Pattee.

The D.J. Pattee Suite is dedicated to David Jackson Pattee, whose family built and opened the Hotel Pattee on May 29, 1913.

The suite begins with a charming parlor featuring a wood burning fireplace, which leads through French doors into a king sized bedroom and oversized bathroom. It’s a beautiful blend of history, character, and comfort.

There are so many special details and stories tucked into this suite, so over the next few days, we’ll be exploring the D.J. Pattee Suite and sharing more of what makes this room so special!

While we’re exploring the Louis Armstrong Suite, it’s only right to share the story of another figure connected to the Hotel Pattee, and that's Josephine Lee.

Josephine Lee worked in the hotel’s laundry room in the 1950s, during a time when the Hotel Pattee hosted all kinds of notable guests, including one of the greatest jazz musicians of all time, Louis Armstrong.

Now, most of us never had the chance to see Armstrong perform live, but you probably know one of his signature stage habits: he always carried a handkerchief to wipe his face and mouth after blowing that trumpet. During one of his stays at the Hotel Pattee, Armstrong sent 25 handkerchiefs down to the laundry with very specific folding instructions. Why? Because he liked to pull them from his pocket with dramatic flair, and they had to be folded just so.

Josephine Lee and her coworkers did their best to get it right, but none of them quite nailed the technique. With plenty of other work waiting, Josephine finally became (understandably) frustrated. So she ironed the handkerchiefs flat, flipped the note over, and scrawled a now-legendary reply: “Fold them yourself.”

Even into her 90s, Josephine recalled that moment with pride and a smile. Guests can’t book the room named for her, but it feels only right that the hotel’s laundry room honors the spunky, hardworking Josephine Lee.

If you’re going to dedicate a suite to the legendary Louis Armstrong, it better have some personality, and this one certainly does! This suite brings a little taste of New Orleans to Hotel Pattee, with a design inspired by the city’s rich character and a strong French influence.

Step inside and you’ll find a cozy sitting room complete with a wood burning fireplace... the perfect spot to settle in, relax, and imagine the sounds of jazz drifting through the air.

From its warm, inviting atmosphere to its bold New Orleans-inspired style, this suite is a fitting tribute to a man whose music and personality were anything but ordinary.
