💭How we balanced local and visitor customer bases to create a stable business

💭 Hawaii history around Pepeekeo

💭 IG lives to answer small biz operating and marketing questions (just sharing the tips and tricks we’ve learned along the way

💭 Poscasting with other small Hawaii businesses

💭 General community around small business (maybe a Facebook group?

💭 Advice on cat rescue (we’ve gotten real good at it LOL)

💭 Something we haven’t thought of

We love this community, and would love to be able to continue giving to it if it’s possible in any way, shape, or form.

A walk down to Onomea Bay. Generations ago our family used to fish in this bay, perhaps yours did too?

Knowing our family history and where we come from connects us to our communities and our island. Feeling thankful for the deep history of this coastline, and our connection to it all.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend friends!

The realities of owning a restaurant / food business: sometimes you get a pallet of butter delivered to you when you order 1 box 😅

Things like this didn’t happen often, but they made for a good laugh when they did.

We got weekly Costco shipments which usually included 2 pallets of the usual restaurant and store supplies.

So imagine our shock when a third pallet, all butter boxes, rolled out one day 🧈

While the Instagram poll we posted at the time showed a strong lean towards keeping the butter tower, we decided to return it 😂

Friends who have worked in the food industry, has this happened to you?? What did you do?

Throwback photo of the Low Store building as Mento's gas station.

Pepeekeo School sat right across in what is now Pepeekeo Park. Do you have family or friends who went to Pepeekeo School?

Agnes Low, the first generation owner of the Low Store property was also a school teacher there!

The Hawaii Farm Trails headquarters, Onomea Country Market & Cafe, is now open in this historic building!

Raise your hand if you remember ice cakes!

Gerry, the 2nd generation of the Low family (known as Aunty Gerry) used to make these for the store. The recipe is simple and we wanted to share it!

You need some kind of shave ice syrup or fruit syrup flavoring (maybe Italian ice syrup) for this one 😊

Ingredients:
-Shave ice syrup or equivalent
-Water
-Lihing mui seed
-Little paper cups to freeze mixture

•Mix water and shave ice syrup to your liking (more syrup = stronger flavor) in a mixing glass

•Set out empty paper cups on a cookie sheet with wax paper or plastic wrap underneath (so cups don’t stick as they freeze)

•Drop in a lihing mui seed to bottom of paper cup

•Fill cups half way or 3/4 way up with the syrup mixture

Set on a flat surface in the freezer and freeze several hours or overnight.

Enjoy!

Tell me your cat is mad at you for not sharing your lunch, without telling me. I’ll go first 😂

This is an older photo, Pickles has lost weight since being diagnosed with feline diabetes. That definitely hasn’t stopped him for begging family and neighbors for food 😂
