We will totally give you an iced coffee for your interview with us. 🤣

Is it so wrong to show up to your prospective workplace with an iced caramel macchiato in tow?

This past weekend, we were introduced to the “iced-coffee discourse” — the latest chapter in the ongoing debate about how the newest generation of workers is failing made-up tests of workplace professionalism. One corporate recruiter took to TikTok to share her disappointment in younger candidates who show up to interviews with coffee, arguing that it implies the applicant is treating the interview too casually. But according to writer Maya Watson, this discourse is about far more than just coffee: “It’s about the way the corporate world still enforces rigid, unwritten etiquette 'rules,' just as our predecessors did before us,” she writes.

Watson unpacks the iced-coffee debate — and why it obscures a much more significant problem with the way we work now: https://nymag.visitlink.me/3Wz-j6
