MY FELLOW NEW YORKERS: Back in March of this year, under S.7919, The Governor was given the power to take virtually any action deemed necessary against the back drop of the Corona Crisis. New Yorkers rallied and did what we were asked to do to flatten the curve and protect the health of our neighbors.

In a 55 day span, the Governor enacted or changed 262 Laws, utilizing 60 Executive Orders. These powers are still in effect almost 6 months, while most states limit them to 30 days. While the "Curve" has not only flattened, but is almost non-existent, (2 covid related deaths were reported on Aug. 10th), mandates and edicts are becoming more stringent, especially to the Bar/Restaurant business. On July 16th, the Governor enacted, "Three strikes and you're closed" Restaurant owners have sued, to request the scientific evidence these decisions are based upon. Heretofore, none has been provided. The dilemma extends beyond the concerns of Bars/Restaurants and highlights the lack of transparency when the Governor doesn't answer to anyone.

We understand that year after year the participation of the populace to engage our elected officials, dwindles substantially and while marching in the streets is symbolic, only directing our energies to the folks in power, will have any long lasting value.

To this end, NYS Senator Pamela Helming (315-568-9816) and NYS Senator Thomas O'Mara (607-735-9671) have proposed legislation to rescind these powers, as it undermines the foundation of our democracy by eliminating "Checks and Balances" Please call their offices or write a letter to offer support of this measure. This is not about Covid or Cuomo 's handling of it ,specifically, those will be discussed at length at some point in the future. This is solely about retrieving some say, in the events that shape and control our lives.

The Brennan Law Center at NYU, has determined our Legislature, the most ineffective in the nation, at addressing the needs of constituents over ensconced special interests. It can always be changed, if we have the will. Jus Sayin..Peace. By Joe Wall.

Ladies and gentlemen if you don't want to see your favorite restaurants and other small businesses disappear forever you absolutely need to become involved in this issue. This is not a joke. We are all very very close to losing everything and the governor of New York doesn't care and is running unchecked.
