There are certain places in Panama City Beach that become more than just a business, they become traditions.

For generations, one of those places has been Pineapple Willy's.

What began as a small beachfront operation in the 1980s became one of the most recognizable restaurants on the Gulf Coast. Located directly on the sand, Pineapple Willy's became famous for its relaxed atmosphere, sea views and exclusive barbecue ribs. Families who visited Panama City Beach year after year often found themselves returning to the same table, ordering the same food and creating the lifetime memories.

That's what happens with PCB traditions.

It's not always about the food itself. It's about the people sitting in front of you.

This is for the family photo taken before dinner. The sunset over the Gulf. The stories told around the table that somehow repeat themselves every summer.

For many visitors, Pineapple Willy's became part of the annual beach ritual. A trip to Panama City Beach simply didn't feel complete without a stop at the iconic beachfront restaurant.

The same can be said of another local favorite that has become part of countless family vacations, our own Pink Pelican Ice Cream Bar.

Just as families have gathered at Pineapple Willy's for dinner, many have ended their beach day with a stop at Pink Pelican for a scoop of ice cream, a banana split or a milkshake. Parents who visited when they were children now bring their own children, continuing with the traditions that extend through the generations.

In a coastal city that has changed drastically over the years, places like Pineapple Willy's and Pink Pelican remind us that it is worth clinging to some traditions.

Because long after the holidays are over, people rarely remember every detail of the trip.

They remember the places that united everyone.

And in Panama City Beach, those memories are often made with good food, good company and some ice cream before returning home.

The sweet history behind the ice cream cone. Few treats are as iconic as the ice cream cone. Whether you're walking along the beach or enjoying a summer night with the family, there's something special about the ice cream served in a cone.

But, where does it come from?

Although people had been enjoying ice cream for centuries, the cone itself did not become popular until the beginning of the 20th century. The most famous story takes us to the 1904 World Fair in St. Louis, Missouri. According to legend, an ice cream seller ran out of dishes during a busy day. A nearby waffle seller came to the rescue by rolling his hot cone-shaped waffles, creating a portable way to enjoy ice cream.

The idea was an instant success.

Although historians still debate exactly who invented the first ice cream cone, there is no doubt that the 1904 World's Fair helped make it famous throughout America. Soon, ice cream cones could be found in shops, fairs and refreshment fountains from coast to coast.

Today, billions of ice cream cones are enjoyed every year. From the classic cake cones and crunchy sugar cones to freshly made waffle cones, the humble cone has become as important as the ice cream itself.

More than a century later, one thing hasn't changed, ice cream simply tastes better in a cone.

So the next time you enjoy your favorite flavor, remember that you are participating in a sweet tradition
