In 1973 Mama’s Fish House was born – Maui’s first fresh fish restaurant. Nestled in a beautiful coconut grove on a secluded white sand beach, this converted beach house restaurant is a memory of old Polynesia on Maui’s North Shore. Everyday we serve outstanding fresh catch lunches and dinners, with light fare through the afternoons in our elegant bar & lounge. All of our fish is locally caught in Hawaiian waters. Our menus are printed twice daily to credit the local fishermen.

We’re humbled and grateful to share that, through the support of our guests, we were able to donate nearly $8,000 from all Ho‘okipa Sunset cocktails sold in October to the Maui Health Foundation’s Kokua 4 A Cause.

These funds help provide essential support for breast cancer awareness, screenings, mammograms and even surgery, if needed, for women in our community.

Mahalo for joining us in giving back. Together we make a difference!

Dane Nacht with a twenty-nine pound Uku! This past year, he’s been bringing us catches from his kayak. A lifelong fisherman, Dane only recently took up kayak fishing.

When asked about what it’s like to fish from a kayak: “I wanted to get access to the types of fish deeper waters hold and it is a much more intimate experience. You don’t have the upper hand out there. When you hook into a decent fish, for the first part of the fight, you go where it wants, you are not in control. Kayak fishing is such a different level of connection than just harvesting a product out of the ocean.”

We are thankful for his fish and his dedication to something that he loves. Look for Uku on our menu your next visit. You may even see Dane featured on our menu!

For over 42 years, our flower arrangements have been lovingly hand-crafted right here on island. Each bloom is carefully grown, gathered, and thoughtfully arranged each week. The flowers reflect the season and change throughout the year.

We are grateful to support these talented artists and share their creations with our guests. Look for them during your next visit to Mama’s Fish House!

Waipoli greens and Kula strawberries with heart of palm, honey walnuts, and Surfing Goat Dairy cheese in a vanilla vinaigrette.

This salad alone supports over seven different farmers and their families. We are so thankful and grateful to be able to highlight these resources and in turn support our community. We hope you can taste the love and quality of the ingredients that went into the making of this and every other dish on our menu.

Leon “Fafa” Toofa— A master canoe-builder who was born on the island of Taravao Pueu in Tahiti. Fafa built racing canoes for three different Maui County Canoe Clubs. Through his 44 years of canoe-building, he created some 300 Tahitian-style racing canoes.

We currently have five of his canoes in our restaurant. These canoes were created during the “International Festival of Canoes” which began in 1998 and ran until 2008. The festival honored Hawaii’s heritage with Polynesia and featured an annual line-up of master carvers and artisans from Polynesia and the Pacific Rim. You could witness the long journey from forest, tree, log, and finally the canoe. We are thankful and grateful to have these canoes symbolizing the deep bond and connection between Polynesia and Hawaii.

Pete Sayer has been working with us since the early 90s and ensures our canoes are cared for and kept in the best possible condition. Being so close to the ocean and out in the elements, means this is a full-time job. We are thankful for his dedication and craftsmanship.
