Award-winning, single-origin, 100% Hawaiian coffee — hand-harvested and roasted with care. Ka'ū Coffee Mill, founded by Edmund C. Olson, carries on a tradition of agriculture on the Big Island of Hawai'i, above the village of Pāhala in the District of Ka'ū. Producing award-winning coffee, the mill offers roasted coffee in a variety of roast profiles and processing types, green bean for home roaste

rs and cafes, as well as milling and roasting services for local farmers. This renowned Ka‘u Coffee region lies on the edge of Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park and near the Ka'ū Coast, the longest uninhabited shoreline in Hawai‘i. We invite you to visit our gift shop, try some free coffee samples, join one of our free tours (Mon-Fri at 11am and 1pm), and learn all about the fascinating world of coffee!

Ka'ū Classroom is back — and this one answers a question we get all the time. 🎓☕

What is single origin coffee and why is single origin coffee considered higher quality than blends? It comes down to where it's grown. Kaʻū coffee comes from one farm, one region on the volcanic slopes of Mauna Loa — no blending, no masking, just pure flavor you can actually taste.

The journey of our specialty coffee begins in our rich soil, moves through a patient hand-harvest, and is roasted in small batches with absolute precision.

But our responsibility to the land doesn't end when the cup is poured. The true climax of the Ka‘ū journey happens when our coffee cherry waste is returned directly back to the orchards as organic compost. This closed-loop system nurtures the next generation of trees, keeping our cultural heritage alive.

True luxury is born where modern precision honors timeless heritage. At Ka‘ū Coffee Mill, roasting is a delicate balance between sophisticated technology and human instinct.

While the machine provides flawless control, the soul of the flavor belongs entirely to the roaster. Guided by sight, sound, and a deep connection to our history, our roaster read the beans to bring out the smooth, complex character unique to our land. It is a meticulous craft dedicated to turning every harvest into an exceptional experience. ☕️✨

The planet doesn’t negotiate—it calls for real action.

At Ka‘ū Coffee Mill, we show our aloha ‘āina through active, field-tested stewardship every single day. 🌱

We don't just grow coffee; we protect the ecosystem that allows it to thrive. Our entire production facility on the slopes of Mauna Loa is 100% hydro-powered, running directly on gravity-fed mountain water from our reservoir system. By turning our coffee cherry waste into nutrient-rich organic compost, we feed the volcanic soil that feeds our trees in a true closed-loop process.

This World Environment Day, look beyond the corporate promises. Choose a specialty coffee that respects the earth as much as the bean.

A legacy of excellence, grown at 2,700 feet.

The Ka‘ū District is Hawaiʻi’s rare 830-acre micro-climate, where high elevation (1,100–2,700 feet) cultivates a slow-maturing, dense Arabica bean.

This heritage yields a flavor unlike any other because of location, elevation, and the volcanic soil that are rich in minerals.

In the quiet of our mountain slopes, we are reminded that true strength often blooms from the most difficult ground.

The ʻōhiʻa lehua, the first to find life on the hardening lava, stands as a symbol of resilience and hope.

Today, we hold that same spirit of remembrance for those who gave everything. Their sacrifice is the soil in which our peace grows, and their legacy blooms in the stillness of our islands.

We remember them today, and every day. Me ka hōʻihi (With respect). 🌺🕊️
