Some restaurants need a hundred years of history to get people talking.

This Paducah spot is doing it with 12-hour smoked brisket, Soul Rolls and a plate full of Southern sides.

Home Plate Bar and Grill on North 8th Street is a local soul-food restaurant built around the kind of food that makes choosing your sides almost as important as choosing the meat.

Brisket, wings, loaded potatoes and nachos share the menu with collard greens, turnip greens, candied yams and other comfort-food staples.

And judging by what customers keep talking about, there are a couple things you shouldn’t skip.

The One to Try

Start with the smoked brisket.

It’s smoked for 12 hours and served as a dinner plate, but you’ll also find the brisket piled onto sliders, nachos and loaded potatoes.

Then add the Soul Rolls.

They’ve become another customer favorite and are exactly the kind of appetizer you order for the table before realizing you probably should have ordered more.

Save Room for the Sides

Home Plate may have “Bar and Grill” in the name, but this isn’t just burgers and typical sports-bar food.

Customers repeatedly single out the collard greens, candied yams and other Southern sides, and banana pudding gives you a pretty convincing reason not to leave after the main course.
