And did we mention first place and course record?!?! 🤩

FULL REVIEW FROM DANIELLE — “My initial experience training with Deanna was a smashing success & I can’t recommend her enough to anyone looking to improve their running & fitness.

I came to coach D with a stupid crazy goal - I wanted my 1st mountain 100 miler buckle, I had a 3 month block to prepare & I had to do 90 percent of my workouts in FL, the flattest state in the US. Her response was pretty much LFG!!! She put together a detailed customized plan. Instead of long days in the mountains, I was in the gym - A LOT - on the stair mill & incline treadmill, in the weight room. During our phone call check ins she was so encouraging & supportive & gave me some crucial tips that were absolute game changers on race day.

I’d picked a course that boasted 21k feet of gain & at the start line someone told me it was harder than another 100 I’d previously DNF’d. I took a couple deep breaths & told myself “trust your training.” Well, I ended up winning the women’s race, 2nd place over all & I broke the women’s course record by over an hour! It was definitely hard, but afterwards I told coach, I’d be working through a tough climbing section & think to myself “this really isn’t as bad as those stair mill workouts” haha.

Thanks to Deanna’s coaching & training plan, I look back on that race not as a suffer fest but as an epic adventure where I learned that I was capable of soooo much more than just making it to the finish line. Can’t wait to tackle the next crazy stupid goal with her!”

It’s been an honor getting to know you, coach you, guide and support you every way that I can. Even more excited for what 2027 is going to bring you! Bigggggg things coming 🙌🏻

Yipppeeeee happy medal monday friends!! Where did everyone run or race this weekend?

We had a few athletes out there racing and many grinding out their long runs.

Let’s celebrate this weekends big wins…

Victoria Ashby raced the Grand Further mountain run 25k in North Carolina. This race was just part of the build up in her training for Looking Glass 100k in November. Not only did she do exceptionally well in the race, her recovery back to back run the next day was also a huge success. Saying she felt less sore and better than after easier 25k races. WOOHOO

Then we some champs out there at H9 Dragon in North Georgia. Don Goins completed the marathon, shaving 15 minutes off his time from last year, using this as a solid training race for the barkley fall classic next month. Then we had Denny Chatel completing the 50+ miler. A BRUTAL course with 12k+ feet of elevation gain. It was a hot and muggy August day.

Congrats to these awesome people for getting it done!! Share where you ran or raced this weekend below

Spotlight this week goes to Liz Ritter!

Liz calls Chattanooga, Tennessee home, but she’s originally from Fort Payne, Alabama. She’s been running for 20+ years and has spent the last 6+ years discovering her love for the trails. Her first 50K came in 2023, and now she’s chasing her second ultra with the a big goal of beating her previous time, finishing faster and stronger than before.

Between being a wife, a mom, and everything else life throws her way, Liz continues to show up, put in the miles, and chase the goals that matter to her.

Liz and her husband Bill are also the ones letting us host the Cloudland Canyon Campout this year, so she’ll be with us training on the Lula Lake Trailblazer course that weekend in prep for her race.

Liz, we’re cheering you on every step (and mile!) of the way. And can’t wait to see what more you accomplish this year!

Let’s gooooooooo

What’s your “why?”

For me, every race is unique and has a different goal, a different motivation, a different “why.”

But why do you RUN?! Not race. I’m talking getting up and just getting out there.

It’s such a simple, yet complex question. For a long time I felt like I ran as a form of escapism, to run away from some of the troubles of my own life and find something that lit a fire in me. Something to look forward to.

Now I’m thankful to be in a much better place mentally. My why’s for running are always changing. For this current phase I crave the challenge, and I enjoy the grind. Running has become my flow state, almost like a meditation, and something I always look forward to.

Of course some runs have a particular goal or workout in mind, in which case I follow that. But I never stop trying to enjoy it. Not every run is great, but in a nutshell that’s why I personally like to run. To find JOY and never give up on that.

What’s yours?

Happy Medal Monday!! This weekend was truly special as I got to spend it out volunteering at the Bigfoot 200 race in Mount St Helens, Washington. While many of you were sleeping or finishing another race, we were out all day and all night and all morning the next day, manning an aid station “just” 82 mile into the race. Even had one of my athletes Nicole Riley Cathcart join me!! We had a lot of fun bringing the beach vibes to the pacific northwest and assisting runners while they tackle this beast of a course.

There is something incredibly inspiring about watching people push themselves to places they’ve never been before. When the miles get hard, the sleep deprivation kicks in, the body is exhausted and at it’s limit, your mind wants to give up. Yet somehow they keep putting one foot in front of the other. The tenacity of the human spirit is incredible!!

Getting to witness that determination up close was a reminder that sometimes the biggest victories aren’t about being the fastest or crossing the finish line first. It’s about not giving up on yourself.

My cup is overflowing and I’m thankful to have played a tiny role in helping these runners go after their biggest dream and support the race!! Destination Trail Races
