Mason

It is with a very heavy heart that we share with you that the San Juan Guide family has lost one of its brightest lights. Mason Stansfield was lost to us in a crevasse fall while skiing with his girlfriend in Denali National park. Park Service personnel recovered Mason from a 100’ deep crevasse on Monday the day of the accident. Mason will be missed by all of us very deeply. He was a true professional in every sense and was a true friend to all that knew him. He was a trusted member of the San Juan Mountain Guides team and we considered him a “Swiss Army Knife Guide”- capable of any mission on a moment’s notice. His love of adventure and the backcountry was deep and infectious. His loss will affect us all very much and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and girlfriend. We will support them every way we can in this tremendously difficult time.

There will be an informal memorial to honor the life and memory of this wonderful young man at the ice park climbers memorial on Saturday at 5 pm. After the memorial we will head to Hutch’s to toast our friend. Hutch’s was one of Mason’s favorite places for an after climb/ski/shred/via/summit brewski. See you there.
