After an incredible 47 years at McCarty’s, Jim Bogner has officially retired! 🎉

For nearly five decades, Jim has been a familiar face to coworkers, customers, and so many people throughout our community. You don’t spend 47 years in one place without leaving behind a whole lot of memories—and probably a few stories. 😉

Now it’s time for exactly what these cookies say:

Jim, congratulations on an incredible career and a very well-earned retirement. Here’s to no alarm clocks, more time on the water, new places to see, and plenty of time to simply enjoy what comes next. 🎣

💙 TREAT YOURSELF. HELP A CHILD.

You’ve probably seen CASA before. But a lot of people don’t actually know what those four letters mean.

CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates. CASA volunteers advocate for children who are involved in the court system because of abuse or neglect. They help make sure a child’s needs, circumstances, and best interests are heard during a time when so much of that child’s life is outside of their control.

And sometimes, what a child needs most is simply someone in their corner who keeps showing up.

That one hits home for me.

When I started Lyssa’s Sweets & Treats, I chose the words:

Always Buttercream. Always There.

The first part is easy. It’s what I make.

But “Always There” was never supposed to just be a cute bakery slogan.

I want this little business to be there when people celebrate birthdays, babies, graduations and weddings. I want to be there when someone needs a last-minute box of cookies because life happened. And whenever this business gives me an opportunity to put a little good back into the communities that continue to support me, I want to be there for that, too.

And this matters.

So for Pete’s CASA fundraiser, I donated the treats, ingredients, packaging and my time.

I make $0 from these sales.
100% of what you pay goes to CASA.

Tammy Keith Wilson and a wonderful group of ladies asked me to create this buttercream set to help honor a pastor and his wife in Baxter Springs as they celebrate an incredible 33 years in ministry.

There are some orders that are about more than cookies. This was one of them. It was an honor to create something for a milestone that represents more than three decades of dedication to a church and its people.

A little behind-the-scenes business housekeeping. 🤍

I realized the ServSafe certificate featured on my page was an old one, so it was definitely time for an update.

Pretty cakes and buttercream cookies are the fun part you get to see—but running Lyssa’s Sweets & Treats also means taking food safety seriously behind the scenes.

Current ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification ✔️

POV: You gave your baker a theme instead of a Pinterest picture. 👀

“He loves Monster Jam.”

Say less. 🏁🤘

This is what happens when you tell me what they love—and then let me use my imagination.

We built edible dirt. Added sugar rocks. Ran tire tracks straight up the cake. Created an entire box of square BUTTERCREAM cookies, each with its own design. Then we carried the whole thing straight through the cupcakes.

And when the birthday candle didn’t match the vibe?

We painted the damn candle. 😂🤘

Because around here, custom actually means custom.

You don’t have to spend three hours scrolling Pinterest trying to find somebody else’s cake for me to recreate.

You don’t even have to bring me a design.

Bring me their obsession.
Bring me their favorite colors.
Bring me that weirdly specific thing they absolutely will NOT stop talking about.

You bring the inspiration. I’ll bring the imagination.

I never really know what to say when someone is grieving. Loss is one of those things that makes words feel painfully small.

What I do know is that it was an incredible honor to be trusted with these.

I won’t share the details of this family’s loss. Some moments deserve privacy, and sometimes when the world already feels impossibly heavy, the greatest kindness we can give someone is simply the space to carry it however they need to.

But to the family who chose me to make these for such an important day, thank you. Truly.

I hope these brought even the smallest bit of light to a heavy-hearted day. To know that something I made sat among the people, memories, stories, and love surrounding someone who meant so much is something I will never take lightly.

There are orders that are fun to make, and then there are orders that remind you what an honor it is to be trusted with someone else’s moments.

This was one of those. 🤍
