Statement from Rich & Pam Gardner of Tabletop Restaurant and Catering :
Good evening to our many friends here in Oroville. As most of you know, our final day of business was Sunday, April 14th 2024. The decision to make the move of closing was many months if not almost a year in the making. First off, let me address any false misconceptions or rumors at this point. I have read and heard several things through the grapevine, and none of which is true. The business has not been sold to anyone, nor will it be sold to anyone at this time. At the time of announcing closure of the restaurant, myself, and Pam had exhausted every financial avenue that we knew of to keep the restaurant open and alive. Ideas from a couple members of the community had been expressed to myself and Pam, and put under consideration. We arrived at the conclusion of closing as to head off any further financial and physical damage to the company or our personal lives. The repercussions of our decision are enormous, and are being felt throughout our personal and business lives as well as the community of Oroville. I assure you this is a very dark time in our life, as we feel very lost right now. It has taken a couple days to let the dust settle to even begin processing the entire situation. This whole problem started during Covid, and it has snowballed throughout the business for the last four years. It has been one step forward, and two steps back during that time. We have worked relentlessly to resolve the problems within, but most of the problems have been out of our control. The cost of running a family style restaurant and food service in general, and the profit margins have changed from anything I have ever witnessed before. This is the fourth Restaurant I have owned and/or operated in my life and I have never witnessed such a challenging time strapped with cost of goods and services, regulation, laws, employment and politics. It’s easy for people to say every time I’m here you are busy. It is not the fact that a business is not making money. It also counts how much that business pays out just to keep the doors open. Who wants to pay 25 or $30 for a cheeseburger? No one does! I hope and pray that the restaurant industry, and this high inflation that we are all experiencing everywhere we go comes under control. Myself and Pam want to thank The entire Oroville community for all your years of patronage, but most importantly, your friendships with us! You have left a mark on our hearts, never to be forgotten! I can honestly say I have never known and served an entire community and had so many friends and people who cared! We love you all so very much! Thank you and God bless ❤️✝️🙏
