We hope everyone faired the weather ok this weekend, and had time to stop over to our neighbors in Old Town for river fest!
This September rain has us feeling nostalgic, and as we are getting out our Halloween decor, we thought itβd be a good day to look back!
The Orono institution of Parks Harware/Variety is well known in Orono, even to those who never had the chance to walk the store itself. You needed something? You could find it at Parks!
A long long time ago, the original Parks actually was home here at 11 Mill street as shown in the 1892 Black and White photo. The bulkhead shown to the left, though now gone on the street is still an outline in the Pats basement, and the Mayo Hall overhead (now apartments) was home to many meetings over the 90 years it existed. Parks would later move down Mill Street, being neighbors with the Orono Restaurant in this 1919 photo. Though the building has changed notably since then, if you take a walk down you can see the lower frontage of that section of Parks, now painted green from a Stephen King documentary a few years ago. The Orono restaurant facade is gone, but you can see its footprint along the wall above Yamas!
Fun little history, for a fun little town!
Enjoy your Monday Orono !
