The original concept was thought up in 2011 when he realized that his “party van” had some untapped earning potential. Rather than use it only a handful of days a year and let it sit idle the rest of the time, he decided to put it to work. The idea of shaved ice was decided upon due to a number of factors: the Tropical Sno in his hometown of Orleans, Indiana was abandoned and left for dead, the in
expensiveness of the startup/maintenance costs, and the simplicity of the product to make. Fewer things rub Jordan the wrong way more than Styrofoam; so finding a more environmentally friendly serving vessel was the next objective in the planning stages. It was finally decided upon to use a screen-printed, dishwasher safe, reusable plastic cup to hand out to customers. Not only does this cut down tremendously on waste, it also allows for extra advertisement, provides a multi-use cup for the customer to take home, and at the end of the day it is still recyclable. However, the best part about the reusable SnoMobile cups is that every time a customer returns with one to purchase a shaved ice they receive the “refill rate” which is fifty cents less than an initial purchase with the cup included! To keep it simple it was decided that there would only be two main sizes offered in the reusable form: a 12oz and a 16oz. Additionally there is also a petite 9oz size that comes in a recyclable paper cup as opposed to the reusable plastic container. It has taken many long nights and the help and understanding of A LOT of people to make this a reality. Upon the initial launch we will be fairly “bare bones”, but will be adding new/exciting features and evolving constantly. The idea is to be set up in Orleans throughout the week and at festivals, fairs, and other events on weekends. We will also be available for any private party (graduation, birthday, wedding, divorce, etc.), event, or fundraiser as long as our schedule allows.
