There’s something different about performing poetry at a cookout.

No stage lights. No formal venue. Just good food, great people, and poetry shared in a space that felt like home.

One minute, people were grabbing a plate, the next, they were gathered around listening to poems, sharing stories, laughing, reflecting, and connecting through the power of spoken word. It was a reminder that poetry doesn't need a spotlight to make an impact—it just needs people willing to listen.

The Poetry Potluck brought together artists, poets, and community members in a way that felt natural and genuine. It was less about putting on a show and more about sharing a piece of ourselves.

Moments like these remind me why I love this community.

The Poetry Potluck felt less like an event and more like a family reunion.

There’s something special about getting poets, artists, and creatives together in a space with no agenda other than connecting. Good food, great conversations, a few intense games of spades, plenty of laughs, and the kind of fellowship that reminds you why community matters.

So often we see each other on stage, behind a microphone, or in the middle of creating. It was refreshing to simply slow down, break bread, and enjoy each other's company.

Moments like these are what keep the creative community strong. Looking forward to the next one.

Some events stay with you long after you put the camera down, and ReviveZora was definitely one of them.

Being in Eatonville and documenting a celebration of Zora Neale Hurston's legacy through poetry, music, storytelling, dance, and culture was an experience I'll never forget. The atmosphere was filled with creativity, history, and community.

Watching poets perform original work inspired by Zora while people gathered to honor Black art and storytelling made for a powerful night and some truly meaningful moments to capture.

Grateful to have been there behind the lens and to help document such a beautiful kickoff to the Southern Fried Poetry Festival weekend.
